The best UIC have so far brought is the ban of the chorcal trade, over 10,000 bushles of chorcal was exported via kismaayo to the middle east. Imagin how many trees had to be cut.
Sadley the corrupt administeration of Somaliland and Puntland are the worst, the Riyoole goverment in Somaliland even went as far as issuing license to traders to cut trees. Ina Sanaag, Sool, Togdheer once a well wooded areas are todays the empty qurater of Somalia.
In Burco there are no trees 50 killmoters outside the city. Imagin 12 million somalis and over 10 million animals all burning and consuming the few greenery that is left.
The sadest part of all is the Saudi ban on live stock for the past 8 years the somali livestock increased by 10 folds, on top of that chorcal trade is sanctioned and legalized by the corrupt blood suckers who hold power in Somaliland.
Few somalis realized that in less then 10 years from Somalia will have no more live stock , sheep/goats and cattle will have no grazing pasture, there it goes the only viable natural resoruces Somalia had.
I recently bought this book written by a British hunter in 1890 who hunted liones in Somaliland just few Killmoters west of Hargaysa, the land then and now is incomparble, the land was teaming with wild life of all kinds in exception to Elephants and rehinos which by then were almost extinct.
Now Hargaysa today is devoid of all native acacia trees, from the Qudhac, Galool etc, ironically the only tree that had survived and increased by 10 folds in Hargaysa is the Mire Mire tree a native of Austerlia which was brought by the British in 1910 and the Baxara Saaf both introduced by the British. All native trees in most of Somalia are almost extinct.
Is it possbile to re-plant trees in somalia?? i once heared of this UN sponsored scheme in Ethopia where they plant trees over 50,000 in a single year?? if thats true or one of the hypes of the UN aid i do not know.
The bigest enemy of Somalia , the chorcal traders.
