Awahab, some ppl had your argument saying there's no alternative to the Islamic Courts a few years ago. Those administrations in the north where there then and now while the south changed hads several times.
My point was why not tame the south before creating a handicap federal government? Humans are different from animals because they learn history to perfect the future. Aren't we acting like animals when we continue creating pseudo national governments with 100s of ministers over and over and over. How many fake govs had we had since 1991? The south needs one or two regional administrations in order to get lasting peace for all Somalia . How can a guy in a Mugadishu banker have a say on what's happening in other parts of the country? This is a very ridiculous approach.
Yesterday was USC, then it was the warlords, then Islamic Courts and now talibanazed shababs. I wonder what the future holds for southern Somalia - I mean the next wave. The funny part is that there are 100s of guys who played roles in above mentioned factions.
In my opinion - you want a lasting peace? the answer is a REGIONAL dialog for the south, not a national one.

Regional administrations are not a feasible alternative in Shabab Somalia. They view Somaliland, Puntland and Galmudug simply as secularist fiefdoms that need to be taken over and ruled by them. If it were not for the Ethiopians or NATO, they would have succeeded in their mission.
As for the future, it is no longer in the hands of Somalis. With the TFG, they are beholden to foreign interests i.e. Western ones. Al Shabab are beholden to Al Qacida interests and will see their Somalia being used for furthering the Al Qacida agenda in East Africa and the Middle EAst. So all in all, neither the Shabab nor TFG have any direct control of their affairs but are merely proxies in a greater game between the West & Al Qacida.
