Oromos has never been expansionist, quite the opposite.
Oromo become big population wise because at a time, all the opressed tribes
of the area, prefered being Oromo than lo'ijir, midigan, Boon, Baantu etc...
As for Akichu, even those living in Somaliland do have Oromo clan names: warra miyo, warra bito, warra dayo etc...

The quiet few I met in Oromo lands do consider themselves as Oromo.
As for Gurgura, even at the height of their uber somali claim, they had warm hearted relation with AQ.
For me the Dir Somali tribe classification is confusing, some even consider qalloo as dir man
