lama, xawo tako

Not only was she not mentioned, I amd many other ppl don't know anything about her. I suspect, since she was a woman she didn't get as much coverage as other historic icons

Isn't she a fictional figure who didn't exist?

Arabmann,
No saaxib. Xaawo Cismaan Taako was a somali nationalist who participated in our freedom.

Following the defeat of Italy and Germany, a commission consisiting of the winners of the 2nd world war was appointed to govern in former italian and german territories. They visited Xamar and met the Italian colonialists. The people of Mogadishu suspected that self determination was not discussed and demonstrated against the commission and the Italians. Xaawo Taako was actually instrumental in the formation of the SYL.

The SYL was formed in 1943. Xaawo was an activist. In 1945, there was a Potsdam (East Germany) conference in which Somalia was discussed. There was no question about British Somaliland but Italian somaliland remained under Italian (this time with blessing of the UN which in 1949 granted Italy trusteeship). This is where Xaawo Taako's contribution to our freedom comes in; she was already an activist but she gave her life for the cause. In 1948, the representatives of Britain, US, Russia and France visited Mogadishu. Xaawo Cisman organised women, children etc to demonstrate for freedom. Xaawo's action and sacrifice was like the Tunisian student who started the arab spring.

This is what is written on the event of fateful day for Xaawo and a great day for many somalis because it herald our self determination:
Dhacdadii 11ka Jannaayo 1948
Dhammaadkii 1947, ayaa waxaa nalaku wargeliey inuu magaalada Xamar imaanayo Guddi ka socda Afarta Quwadood (Maraykanka, Ingiriiska, Faransiiska iyo Ruushka) “Four Power Commission”. Muhimada Guddigu waxay ahayd xaqiiqo-raadis iyo inuu u kuurgalo rabitaanka iyo himilada siyaasadeed ee shacabka Soomaaliyeed .
Intaan guddigu imaan, Leegadu waxay qabatay shriweeyne ay ka soo qaybgaleen Guddiyada Leegada ee gobollada Soomaaliyeed oo idil, si looga wadatashado, meelna la isula dhigo mawqifka Leegada ee ku aadan Guddigaas. Wadatashi iyo dood dheer ka dib, Leegadu waxay go’aansatay in la codsado in Soomaliya ay wadajir u maamulaan Afarta Quwadood. Go’aankaasi wuxuu ku saleeysnaa laba aragti oo ah:
1. Inaan marnaba la aqbali karin in la soo celiyo Talyaaniga oo la ogyahay maamulxumadiisa iyo waliba dhibaatda uu u geeystay ummadda Soomaaliyeed.
2. Inkastoo Ingiriisku ku dhawaaqay inuu Soomaalida oo idil meel isugu keenayo, loona riyaaqay oraahdaas, haddana waxaa la istusay inaan la aamini Karin Ingiriiska. Leegadu waxay Ingiriiska u aragtay Dawlad weeyn oo mustacmir ah oo aan la iska kicin Karin mar hadday kugu habsato.
Guddugii wuxuu yimid Xamar 6dii Jannaayo 1948. Waxaa la qorsheeyey in urur waliba uu dhoolatus ku maro Guddiga hortiisa oo ah halka Hotel Curuuba hadda ka dhisan yahay, wagaasna ahayd xarunta Guddoomiya Ingiriiska. Waxaa buuq, sawaxan iyo dhoolatus isku daray axsaab iyo kooxo Soomaaliyeed oo Talyaanigu maalgeliyey oo meel kasta la maray calamo Talyaani ah, iyagoo ku dhawaaqaya Talyaani, Talyaani. Leegadu waxay codsatay in maalin gaar ah la siiyo ooy cududooda muujiyaan. Waxaan ka warhelnay in la rabo in la carqaladeeyo bannaanbaxa iyo dhoollatuska Leegada. Leegadu markay darastay xaaladda, waxay go’aansatay, in haddii la carqaladeeyo, ay weerar ku qaado oo abbaarto Talyaaniga oo ah kan soo diraya kooxaha Soomaaliyeed.
Subaxdii 11 Jannnayo 1948, Naadiga waxaan ku reebnay 5 dhalin yaro horseed ah iyo qaar dumar ah. Intayadii kale waxaan abaabuleeynay bannaabaxa. Annagoo ku jirna hawshaas, waxaa na soo gaartay qaylodhaamo in la soo weeraray Naadiga ooy soo weerareen kooxo Soomaali ah oo Talyaanigu soo diray. Ka dib, waa isqaybinay. Qaar waxaan u dirnay Naadiga inay difaacaan, intii kale waxay weerar ku qaadeen Talyaaniga. Halkaas waxaa lagu dilay 54 Talyaani ah , waxaana lagu dhaawacay 55. Dhankayaga waxaa la dilay Xaawo Cismaan (Xaawo Taako). Waxaa Leegada gacan siiyey askarta Somaaliyeed ee Ingiriiska u shaqeeynayey oo hoos Leego ka ahaa. Naadigu wuxuu ku yiil ka soo horjeedka meesha laga dhisay taallada Xaawo taako.

Abwaan Hadraawi the best at what he does today.
Jaalle Madaxweyne Siyaad Barre aun he was indeed the best, one of the pillars of my Somali pride.
Sayid Mohamed Abdille Hassan aun he was the best, a real mujahid fighting a true infidel enemy.
Shiekh Cumar Faruuq aun, he was the best in my opinion and i loved his use of the somali language.
Professor Shire Jaamac AUN, the best, in my opinion he deserves credit also for general Somali development.

Lamagoodle,
Thanks for the information the Website. I read it through
Adali,

who the picture in your avater btw?
Reerawhassan,
it is not difficult to believe that ahmed gurey was marehan as many of his fighters were. There are other possibilites, but in my opinion, the claim of him being marehan is not farfetched and it has been with us for a long time. He could have been samaroon or Ogaden too, but the thing is we need some back ups and from the information we got his succeser was marehan the same person who married his widow. Anyway, I have not problem witht the clan of the person. He was ethnic Somali beyond doubt and that is what counts. We can omit his clan. No need to.
