The father should be reasonable but It's pretty damn sick for the girl to choose a guy over her parents. How is this related to some Somali women marrying ajanbis(which btw is mainly a western phenomenon)when this man is Somali? These are treated worse than ajnabis if you look at it, there's more chance for a family accepting an convict ajnabi convert than a gabooye, as if the latter aren't muslim. Not saying parents refusal should be taken lightly,but there have been cases where the guy committed suicide or elopes with the girl,and it's not worth it.Soon this practice will come to an end when people realise that they better come up with better reasons to say no.

I think in the Hanafi school of thought a divorced women does not need a wali. The other school of thoughts still say that a wali is needed if I remember correctly.

In terms of Widowed/Divorced women. But, as hyper explained, hanafis don't even differentiate between a virgin and a non-virgin's need for a wali.

about the original topic, ive seen in the family courts, fathers, brothers, uncles, grandfathers refusing their daughters or womenfolks to marry some one cause of he doesnt wear short enough dashdasha or he wears pants. you see things you may just read it but you will amazed how some people think and their reasoning. some times they get away with it what you and i think is laughable!!

both the boy and the girl deserves to be severely karbaashed and beaten up,, not bcoz he is a midgaan but bcoz of their treacherous and deceiving method of marrying specially the coward boy who went behind the family back instead of being a man and trying to go straight to the father... how would anyone ever respect you if that is what u do? sneaking through the back door and running away with a stupid girl that don't know whats good for her.

this is a major disrespect for any Somali family and they are responsible for watever happens to them, if someone runs away with my daughter like that (be him a midgaan or watever) wallahi no court will stop me from breaking their bones both of them.
