From what I heard north Mog is the safest....because the local Abgals don't let anybody in apart from Liido beach. :)
The safest places of the city is where there are no military base or checkpoint.

I was always under the impression that Abgaal lived in the North and Habargedir and other non-natives occupied the southern part of Mogadishu and Madiina/Dharkanleey was in the north. Isn't Madiina abgaal majority? I looked up a map and I see I was wrong about Kaaraan too. How did the greenline divide the city when the warlords controlled it? By the way the old man I was talking about told me he lives in xaafada Dabakaayo Madoow in Dharkanleey?

Turbulence yes Abgaal cntrolled North part of the city. But they also had neighbourhoods in the south like Mediina, parts of Hodan, Wardhiigley and Howlwadaag.

Turbulence wrote:I am not saying this how it is in all of Mogadishu but I wanted to share a . Few months ago I sent some money to an elderly DIR cousin of my father who lives in Madiina in Northern Mogadishu. The old man is from Kismaayo but he lives there with his daughter who is married to a Habargedir guy. The other day someone at the local office at Kaah Express, the money transfer company I used to send the money, called my cellphone to tell me the money I sent few months ago has not been picked up at the Mogadishu yet. They said they called the old man's phone number and no one is answering it. I called the number and I could not get through either. I went to the local Kaah Express office immediately and made sure the phone number they had on record was correct and it was. The people at Kaah said they would hold on to the money until the elderly man picked up it up.

I called my mother after I left the office and got the phone number of someone we know in Mogadishu and we had that person check on the old man and relay to him that he has money to pick up. The old called us back few hours later to tell us what happened after he used some of the money I sent him to buy a new phone . He told us his entire neighborhood was rounded up few months back and were robbed by armed gunmen who took their cell phones and anything valuable they had. At first I didn't know if the old man was making up the story or not but his daughter confirmed it too. I am not sure if this is a problem in all of Mogadishu or just some neighborhoods. Whatever the case is my reason for telling this story is Mogadishu, even with all the progress it is making, has a lot of work to do in terms of security.

madiina is fucked up mooryan central if ur not abgaal ur not safe there

Hence you see how we demeaned our language.

In Somaliland/Somalia A person speaking English, Arabic or even Swahili is more like to get a job than a fully qualified only Somali speaking individual. We have demeaned our own heritage

Y'all ever read that book where they did the experiment with the impact of colonial languages and the pride of the colonized.

You get a speaker to read something in English and something in the native language and get students to rate how intelligent, trustworthy, kind etc the person is. Every other country even the frenchies in Quebec rated the English part higher, except the Somalis who thought the Somali speaker could do no wrong.

Sounds like you never been sxb.....you don't jobs based on if you speak swahili or english. You get a job based on nepotism and clan affiliation.

Agree with you there. It's quite unseasoned.
