You can't definitely rule it out theologically because Rasulullah SAWS did not rule it out, neither did his sahabah. Those who want to rule it out completely are using their own desires to make judgements.

Having said that, some scholars have argued that the prophet saws was slowly fazing out the practice known as a slavery. The regulations he put into it and the great reward attached to freeing your slaves is proof of this.

Furthermore, we should note that the regulations put into place about Slavery by Islaam were quite emancaptory. The economy was based on slavery, so the prophet saws could not ban it outright. What he did was put guidelines on how you treat your slaves. When you see the guidelines he put forth, it becomes clear that slavery in the Islamic context was not your A-typical slavery. It was no where near what happened in the African slave trade to the Americas.

As for the concubines.. That LAW was put into place to protect women from being raped and abused after a war. It is a known fact that when one civilization conquered another one, the victor would plunder the loser and rape its women. Historical records attest to this. Islaam put this into practice to prevent this rape and abuse from happening. One needs to understand the rationale of the law before dismissing them completely.

Btw, in the famous Hadith of Jibriil coming to the prophet saws which is in Sahih Muslim, it says

Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, " It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet He sees you." He said, "Inform me about the Hour." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "About that the one questioned knows no more than the questioner." So he said, "Well, inform me about the signs thereof (i.e. of its coming)." Said he, "They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted ones, the naked, the destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings." Thereupon the man went off.

So this is proof that before Qiyaamah arive, this practice would have been reinforced. Just saying.
