People who insist that the Somali culture is not dying are lying to themselves - once a culture is lost everything else does not exist. Where are the Ancient Egyptians? The Aztecs? Their culture was invaded, their language and culture cut apart. The only thing Somalis ever had going for them was their culture, the uniqueness of the poetry, and the dance. That is what made you a Somali, and what connected us all together.

When my somali culture contradictions my diin then I will leave my somali culture and take my diin because somali culture will not take me to Jannah. But when my somali culture is inline with my diin then I will parade it loud and clear.

You're trying to say that I am favoring my ethnicity over my religion. This is the only thing people of your nature do, it is this psychological game you guys play, and frankly it is getting old.

There is a difference between culture and religion. Culture are basic customs: for instance, our language, mannerisms, etc. When I say something in Somali, you are able to understand it, and we find humor in our own jokes, other people be they Muslim or not will never understand because they are not Somali.

Religion is submission to God and it is a personal endeavor. Religion is now a political formula used by the Saudis and other Arabs for their own well being.

Arabs tell you Somalis what to do "don't talk to these people, don't wear this, don't do that" under the disguise of religion. While you are doing what they have told you to do, they are doing the opposite. The two main owners of Somalia are UAE (they own Mogadishu airport) and Saudis who have supplied Al-Shabaab with weaponry. Have you see their buildings, their infrastructure, compared to any Somali city?

I think when people talk about separation of culture and religion, they have a Western narrative in mind which has religion relegated to Sunday church services. A lot of people here have Arab phobia. For them Islam is Arabs. Islam does not equal with Arabs or visa verse. You could be Muslim and not be Arab and you could be Arab and not be Muslim.

That's true Voltage,seperating religion fom politics,doesn't even make sense in an Islamic context

We are not talking about Islam within the framework of topic we are talking about the expansion of Saudi culture. Women in Mogadishu cannot step outside their house, because the Saudi inspired Al-shabaab has set forth that rule. How can people get married and populate their society if they cannot meet someone of the opposite sex? Don't say it is because it is dangerous, and the women will be harmed. Walking on the sidewalk in broad daylight in the suburbs is also dangerous, as many innocent children have been kidnapped while riding their bikes will concur.

I think you don't find anything subjective with the new aged Somali women because you're a man. Regardless of if Somali women wear dirac or moon sized sheet, it doesn't change your life or how you are viewed. At the end of the day you can wear your pants, or anything you deem necessary.

Yet you are for Somaliland, a group of people who want to separate from their own and are controlled by a 4'9 leprechaun from Ethiopia. You remind me of a snow monkey that laughs at another snow monkey for having a pink butt hole, yet you possess the same one.

I doubt Somali woman are going to be controlled that easily. Just today Sadeboi was remarking to me how it seemed to be women leading all the protests against the UN interference. But I agree some of the cultural aspects of the Saudis as relating to gender relations need not be brought to Somalia although in a general sense I doubt Somali women's independence will be curtailed that easily.
