Me even engaging in such a silly discussion is blasphemous. When You debate with someone, there has to be some credence, credibility to their arguement but this is just plain comical and unworthy of my time. My challenge to illustrate My point:

Bring Me ONE and I mean ONE Non-Dhabayaco to say that AY had a better legacy than MSB AUN and I will bring You 20 who will say otherwise. Now if You're really brave (which You're not) try going to a Somali gathering place and asking this question, but I'm sure You won't because humiliating Yourself isn't fun in real life, and is a lot more tolerable on the Internet (which You're doing now). The reason why Abdullahi Yusuf is not compared to Siyad Barre is because they are not comparable. Somalia was handed to Siyaad Barre while Abdullahi Yusuf bravely fought for power. Siyad Barre cowardly used the nations miltary to kill defenseless women and children while Abdullahi Yusuf fought to end Siyad Barre oppression, brutality, persecuation and systametic genocide against the mighty Majeerteen.

Siyaad Barre destroyed Somalia and he was nothing more than illiterate dictator, while Abdullahi Yusuf worked hard to rebuild the nation Siyad Barre destroyed. Siyad Barre has the nation's miltary on his disposal while abdullahi Yusuf was always one man army who in the end triumphed over dictator Siyad Barre. When Somalis became fed up with Siyad Barre and when he didn't have the nation's military to use against Majeerteen, we all know how pathetic and powerless he turned out to be. Abdullahi Yusuf gave Siyad barre a heart attack till the day he died like some homeless gypsy in exile. Abdullahi Yusuf created Puntland, what has Siyad Barre did for his people? where is his legacy? what did he leave behind?

Siyad barre legacy is a murderer of women and children and the man who was responsible for Somalia's demise. Abdullahi Yusuf is superior to Siyad Barre in every sense of the word.

lol no, but the USC came close to capturing him but he was brought to by the ones you've mentioned. It was the right thing to do because they were the last people to leave Xamar

Things turned into qabiil, daroods including MJ were being targetted. Eventhough SSDF were the first to rebel against him in 1978, the movement collapsed when its leader AY was arrested in 1984 by the Ethiopians. Many of the SSDF returned either to Mudug or returned back to Xamar and joined the Army. The most of MSB officers fled the country at the first gun shot, the rebels were close to Villa somalia, thats where he was brought to safety to the airport hanger and then afterwards to Gedo. From Gedo the president regrouped and laucnhed several attacks to recapture Mogadishu, all attacks failed and at last he was driven back into Kenya. From there Morgan took the command and things took a different turn.

The only Darood fraction that were good organized were MJ and its no suprise that they had the most officers leading the war against Hutu's.

Abdullahi Yusuf bravely fought for power by betraying his nation time and time again? From invading Galgaduud and planting the Ethiopian flag in Balanbale to fulfilling the 500 year Abyssinian dream of reaching the Indian Ocean, Abdullahi Yusuf has been a pawn of men far greater than he. To compare putting down foreign financed rebellions to being a pawn of an impoverished African nation is nothing short of ridiculous.

Siyad Barre, for all his flaws, was the physical manifestation of the modern Somali state for 21 years. Somalia's achievements under his rule have never been repeated, nor is the post-Siyaad Somalia the land of milk and honey the rebels promised it would become. Jabkii Siyaad waa jabkii Somalia, if we're being honest here. You and I were not refugees in the West when the kacaan government was in power, nor can anyone argue (in good faith) that Somalia is better off now than under his government.

This is where the comparison between the two reaches the height of ridiculousness. AY was a clan leader, from the establishment of SSDF to the establishment of Puntland to the Ethiopian invasion, which he viewed as revenge against Hawiye. Siyaad was first and foremost a leader of all Somalis. I find it hard to take claims of Siyaad's nepotism seriously when people will argue in the same sentence that Siyaad left his clan nothing. In truth, Siyaad did little for the regions he came from for reasons unbeknownst to me, maybe in an a misguided attempt to appear fair.

All in all, a comparison between the two leaders in an exercise in folly. No sane Somali (regardless of clan affiliation) will deny the fact that Siyaad Barre's first decade in power was the most fruitful and prosperous period in Somalia's modern history, though many will dispute his second decade's legacy. Abdullahi Yusuf, however, will forever be reviled in Somali history (excluding the MJs, apparently) as a puppet, a pawn, and a means to an end.
