The man who funded them and train their rebel groups was MSB. Ali Mohammed Gedis father was responisble for the weapons, equipment and money they would get. Malas had contact with Mohamed Gedi on regular basis and even live in Muqdisho from time to time. Afwerki shared money, equipment and weapons with his ally Malas. The only condition MSB had was that if they manage to overthrow Mengistu and he was pretty sure they would, that they give the Somali people liberation and they accepted, What else could they do, they could not bite the hand that fed them. MSB could not attack Etiopia because Mengistu had Soviet behind him until the end while America would never back MSB.

So he had to use these rebel groups. Afwerki was sly though. He foresaw the Somali civil war and told Malas to promise the Somali people that a referendum would be held but not say what date it would take place. When Somali civil war broke out, Malas did not have to fear MSB so he told them fock off.

The point is that Afwerki did not oppose Somali liberation because he was selfish but because he is Xabasha and just like his Amhara counterparts that gives them a fake sense of pride. Xabashas have never defeated Somalis in battle nor subjugate us by force but just because colonials gave them our land and now because of that rule over it, gives them a sense of pride.

Somalis do not realize this but when they do, Etiopia will be history.

yep everything is eritrea's fault. somali fighting each other is eritrean fault. you had the best army and went from that to a nation a few bantu kenyan and ugandans entering and controlling. we had 300,000 Ethiopian soldiers In eritrea to deal with with annual $2 billion of soviet equpiment pouring in every year from 1977 till 1989, Isiais warned your ONLF leader in 1980's in a meeting in sahel DO NOT TRUST TIGRAYAN AND MELES but ONLF allied themselves with them blindly and missed on an opportunity when tplf was weak to get what they wanted. Somali were pointing guns at each other because Mengistu and meles told them to do. Ethiopia was trying to create an eritrean opposition army for 10 years and failed while anti ethiopian troops in Eritrea today is over 100,000. The point is once you expect outsiders to help you and ask you to point your guns against your brothers its a path to destruction.

The only reason ethiopia tries everything to suffocate eritrea today by sanctions and western pressure is because Militarily they know Unlike other countries the eritrean army would fight back side by side. How ever you look at it Eritrea is the only country in the horn that is better now than 30 years ago, somalia (internal qabil war and somaliland) Sudan (south vs north) Ethiopia (muslim vs christians amhara vs Tigrayans vs the rest vs esch other + all the PLF'S around) and djbouti (Afar vs Issa somali). About habash Eritreans are not habash race, they might have culturally adopted habesh ethnicity but are not habesh, Eritrea removed the term habesh from eritrean identity in 1993 so basically eritrea is going back to its root classifications. Meles and isias hated each other that meles tried to kill him many times isias was a threat to meles, Isias had a vision of the horn returning to its glory days when trade and alliances made the horn a power and people were united regardless of religion or ethnic group while meles wanted divide the people so his controll would be easy over ethiopia and its neighbours, Best example is look at Eritrea and ethiopia one is united while the other is not, you probarly experienced it how many times you ask an ethiopian where he is from and he would reply Oromo,ogadeni,amhara etc while eritrean would reply Eritrean first then might add his qabil if he feels like it.

I heard ONLF did not fight against Mengistu,ONLF was very weak in 1991.

The ONLF set itself up in 1984 in the Gulf. It never took up arms against the military dictatorship and only appeared in 1991 in the region to participate in politics.

was only working for liberation of ogadeen clan in galbeed,

thats why the whole libertion thing right now kinda slowed, down people are doing more clan intitive stuff

wslf almost won the entire territory

what did onlf did, they are now regional spies for ethiopia, hence why they were not active until the end
