Insamaale was baffled but this is just a reflection of this website as well as reality on the ground.

Agent, I'm baffled because I would expect it from the older generation. I have this particular aunt who is educated & intelligent. I admire her in many was so, I was quite shocked to find out, she wouldn't want any of her kids to marry out of their clan (mind you they're all born here and don't speak a lick of Somali lol )

Anyways, the last time I was debating her about it she said I'm "naive" but to me it is seriously akin to crazy talk to expect all 5 kids to find someone compatible that share a clan. We don't live in our respective tuulos where even the tree's share the same subclan. Waa yaab.

Walahi i kept reading this thread, hoping most were gonna say "gotcha" but so far no.

People are really serious about this. So much prejudice about other qabiils to this extent that u think shit is ever gonna get better in Somalis/with Somalis.

And this is the open minded educated young generation. We r indeed fucked.

tuushi, don't mind them. wey iska hadlayan. this age and time people marry out side their nationality and race. qof qabil waqti o haayo ani koley ma arak.

my dad and his brother are old school and none of them married their qabiil but even went to other nationalities and races.

When I was younger I was a lot more strict about this than I am now. I had certain ideas about the kind of wife I'd marry. But now that i'm somewhat older and wiser, I have a more blasé attitude about qabiil. It happens.

You gotta apply the 'booty test'. If you see a girl with the most perfect booty would you ask, what qabiil are you from? I didn't think so :smugruss:

Hey inaayah

Hyper. That is what i always thought but we have no reason to not believe what the folks in this thread are saying. Most seem like they are legitimately serious.

I think for some people it's about convenience, comfort and familiarity. Other than qabiil, there are cultural, linguistic and cuisine differences between Somalis. Someone from Baidoa speaking Maay Maay dialect eating soor and someone from Djibouti speaking Reer-Waqooyi Somali mixed with French and eating laxoox, might not understand each-other so readily.

as ina samaale said, their parents will put pressure on them  i agree with you its less likely with the diaspora kids but remember most somalis do not live in western countries.

Why is it sad? If I want a wife who I can eat canjeero, soor and cambuulo + bun with (im not denying or confirming whether that's something I want)... what's the problem? :lupe:
