You'll get used to the roads... as for the somalis here . their english is poor... you'll see somali families that have been living here for 20 years and they still blend somali with english.. and then who have those teenager who think their speaking british english but actually their speaking jamaican/Somalian slang of english... it can sound funny at times...

Today I saw alot of Qaldaan people, I swear I dont understand when these people talk to me. I was trying to get them to tell me where a somali restruante was. Anyways, why are all the somali kids here influenced by the jamaican culture. They remaind me of Canada if not worst.

its a Sad... Jamaicans are like british version of black americans... They lead the gang culture and drug industry ..somali youngster in the ghetto are the least cultivated people so they try too hard to fitt in.. till they end up going over the top and becoming more jamaican then the jamaicans....
But the somalis that came over from Scandinavia are maybe the best somali folks you can find here...

So basically, its the same problems that the somali youth in American are facing. That is sad. I hate that culture with a passion. Thank god I never got into that arena of excitment.
I know Scandinavia are pretty good, my cousins moved to london for college and they hate it. Is it true that you actually get money to go to college?

It wont be for me...its for my lil'sis. I know its over for me..stuck with grad school loans. But anyways, she is American, so it wont benefit her at all. However, I'm coming to london for an intership starting in May, so I better get used to the british ways.

Isamahan,
Wlc to the UK ! Land of the go-kart cars, dirty streets, ethnic ghettos, 2 faucet sinks, conservative Somalis, colds & flu, & COLD HOMEs (no one turns up the heat).
Education was cheap when i went to Uni during the Clinton days. I was getting about 80% grants and scholarships and 20% loans. Being a minority, I was the star of the Uni & inducted into Dean's & Presidents List for outstanding achievement.
At every Uni event, I was there to be the "TOKEN MINORITY" It felt good being so well taken care off
Universities in the UK are WAY more expensive than the public ones in California like the Cal States. Tuition & fees are more affordable in CA than most places in the States with the exception of Texas.
Tell you sister to score high on the SATs, do a lot of community service and school activities & she will be on the way to getting a full scholarship like my little sister who gets over nearly 40K in scholarships per year.

AW....I want to go home now.
You are right....Clinton's era were the days. Too bad I got stuck with BUSH and the Iraq war days, and he had to fund the war not the education. I was lucky enought to get a good scholarships and ended up taking loans for the extras. But grad school is an other story my dear.
I found out that Uni's are way cheaper in Cali than anywhere else, esp where I went to college. My sis graduates H.S this year, she already took her ACT and SAT exams and score well in them. I don't however, think its a good plan for her to go to school in Cali. She want to go to SC state or Penn State so hopefully she will get in. Thank god for affirmative active.

Isamahan:
I know. I never thought I had it good in the States until I visited London
I wish your sister all the best.
I do miss Uni. I'd love to be 18 again and in Uni. Ah, the good days: parties, parties, Spring Break, 6 Week Winter vacations, 3 month summer break
Now I am working stiff

ISamahan,
London has good museums but the cost of living is too much. With the pound nearly $2, I won't be headed to the UK for some time.
Good luck with the internship.
To make your adjustment to London life with the Somali folks: wear a hijaab, pretend not to have a social life, be quiet around them and don't talk to any Somali males in their presence

AW...thats depressing except for the hijab part. I noticed alot of females wearing them, so I bought one( I should be wearing it at all times). But the other things your described, I can't live without social live. The guys are not that great here, so I will pass anyways. I'm afraid of being kidnapped walaali men here are weird.
