personally virginity is not something i would judge my future wife on..because i rather marry a non-virgin who has great qualities and makes me better and happier then a virgin who has been done in other places and is not really a good person but because she is still virgin is "good wife for me."

zina is fornication, sex outside of marriage

Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers for such a thing is forbidden. [Qur'an 24:03] (Abdullahi Yusuf Ali)

Both of these ayahs apply to those who have not repented from such an action and therefore it is important to establish repentance. Some scholars have stated in addition to this in their commentaries of this ayah, that it is better for the virgin to marry a virgin and non-virgin to marry a non virgin, ie. those amongst the muslims who have committed similar acts and repented, to marry others from amongst the muslims who have also committed similar acts and repented; believers for believers; pagans for pagans and idolators for idolators. Like for like.

in Tafsiir inb kather and others say if she or he still zani and not did the towbah.
doesn't mean non virgin.
i don't know if you can get ibn kather or al qurtobi online.
even imam ahmad ibn hambal says that nikah means in arabic intercourse.
so the tafseer says means:
no one agree zani to do the intercourse but zania like him or mushrikah.
and ayah ends: horema thalika 3alal momenin.
it's forbiden for mo'mens to do to the nikah's zinah or intercourse without marriage.

so fooling around is not zina but could lead to zina and that is forbiden.
