Gurey, you would make the best propaganda minister. Wallahi your commentary reminds me of that Iraqi information minister. Spins are endless and there is not negative outcome. For a guy in your position, supporting a secessionist African region in a war torn country, and of the same culture, faith, language, and ethnicity as the people you are breaking away from and a society who fights over UN donated wheat grains with your president's most important meeting being that with the "deeq-bixiyayaasha", 20 years later where there was a long period of total ignoring of Somalia and a country could have recognized you and gotten away with it ... you are quite a delusional guy. I mean that is seriously the only description I can give your writing; delusional. :|

Voltage it is called nationalism, I am proud of my country and my people and i will support it to the end.

and delusion.

Wallahi you are the deluded one if you think that we will give up our independance and freedom.

There is zero spin here my friend..

If we had a 3rd party in this argument a nuetral observer, he would see that Somalilands position is the closest to the truth.

Every small skirmish since 2004 from adhicadeey to kalshaale has been a small skirmish,
but by your media they were all glorious victories, a battle to end all battles..

I am one of the most critical ones here of Somaliland, and this government.
Siilanyo has dropped the ball several times, but this i dont blame him,

the dhulbahante shenanigans are 3rd in priority behind the economy, and other internal somaliland politics.

and i never understood why people try to use economic arguments?
Its as if we seceeded from a well of country.
We seceded from a dictatorial regime that attempted genocide against us, and had a disfunctional economy that was actually a drain on our resources.
You are deluded if you think Somaliland benefitted from the Union..

infact the final straw that drove us to rebel was your uncles attempt to take away our monopoly of the livestock trade, the single largest source of hard currency of the Somali republic, after "scientific Socialism" destroyed the bananna and sugar trade.

We were fine with bieng second class citizens, because we had money
but you had to take that away too.

I don't believe that you are not serious about leaving and nor even that most of reer Hargeisa, but I am saying you are delusional about your reality, the vantage points in front of you, and all the obstacles that will hold you down. I speak as a person who would not shed a tear if the triangle leaves, not even a serious Somalia nationalist who would not let you go if hell came down. I am just saying you are the one hoping for something unseen, don't make it seem like you design the parameters concerning if you leave Somalia and how you leave.

Like how Somaliland was more developed than Somalia or that your people were more qualified, education, and you had a bitter infrastructure and civil service right? Tricks are for kids sxb. And you had no monopoly of livestock. Somalia's livestock came from all over the country and even Somali lands of the nomads and the port of Berbera had a government taxer.

Like we have been through this before and I posted number of evidence, reer Hargeisa and the government fight over the ban of the drug called Khat. That's what you had a monopoly over, the selling and the consumption and that is why you went to war. Another page of evidence required?

We all know that Somalila was more developed than the North.
The Italians invested heavily in infrastructure and basic education, while the british invested little.
The reason why there were so many highly qaulified people from Somaliland, from all clans
was that the as per standard british practice they created elites, the secondary schools were primarily for preparing people for Tertiary study.
The Italians only wanted those who could read and write so they could serve the Italian state better.

This explains why Somaliland in 1960 was nation of illiterate nomads with little urbanization or development but excelelnt secondary schools,
and allot of our elite had either a bachelor or masters or higher..
and in the South you had allot of literate people comparatively but very few at that level of education..

and as for the Livestock trade..

the state had control over the export ports, but the business is dominated by middle men who buy it from the nomads all the way from the Ogaden and somalia and bring them to the ports.
and nearly the entire livestock trade was dominated by Isaaq.

Your khat statement is just idle fadhikudiri and has no basis in fact.
khat in the 70's was a luxury item for sucessfull northerners.
The majority of the population developed the habit about the same time as the South.

You are a funny man Gurey. Khaat was banned from the black market and at that time Khaat was only used by reer Waqooyi. It was a "for Reer Waqooyi, by reer Waqooyi" thing in which reer Waqooyi consumed it and reer Waqooyi profited out of it. Abdullahi Caddow (Habar Gidir) as finance minister thought Khaat was hurting productivity because most of the reer Waqooyi laborers in the Gulf would come back and use up their money on it in effect channeling it to Ethiopia. Siad Barre banned it from the black market, the SNM first rose as a response to this by the dealers and then it escalated when Siad Barre's entourage was stoned by kids who were bribed by the dealers. Every action gives an opposite and equal reaction so one thing led to another until the SNM was formally declared but even then the rebellion went on for more than half a decade without turning the full population against the governmnet or actually succeed until Ethiopia kicked out the SNM from Ethiopia after they struck that deal with Siad Barre and the SNM without anywhere to hide hid behind civilian lines and human shields directly leading to the first actual confrontation between the state military and the civilian population which led to more mistakes and what we have today

Even Rukia Omaar and Africa Watch's book Somalia: A government at war with its own people says that was the foundation of the war. In 1982, little kids used by disaffected Khat merchants stoned the president's entourage while visiting coming back from Djibouti

Tell me in her exact words that Qat ban led to the formation of the SNM.

Voltage you can claim ahmed gurey was marexaan its 500 years ago, its a wide open field with no conclusive arguments against it.
But to make up such fantastic tales about events that happened only 30 years ago, events in which people close to them are still alive and breating.

This is a new low...

I have a question for you, do you really believe this stuff, or are you just having a bit of fun and letting of steam?
I would worry about your sanity.

I've heard every reason why the Somali civil war occurred some make sense others don't make any sense at all. I thought I heard it all but today a new one has emerged up:
Tell me in her exact words that Qat ban led to the formation of the SNM.
