This would make really good lyrics for a bad r&b song.

So you would rather be with an ajinabi man than with an OG or an Abgaal man?

FAH1223 - Yes my father is a strong figure in my life, hence my need to fight for my brothers. You make a good point they have personal grievances a lot of the time. I will tell you one thing. In the past it was the males who used to marry out due to access. My mother's first cousins via my ayeyo's brother were half Vietnamese, he later married a Somali after the marriage dissolved. They have children as well and they are part french. I have only been in contact with 1 of my second cousins that are mixed. I noticed a weakening of familial bonds on that side. There is also no marker of them being Somali or practising the faith. However, I know many of my Somali relatives sometimes even 5th cousins and we speak often. Trust me there is nothing great about marrying out, dare I say the grass is not greener on the other side its an off shade of yellow. In other words there are no benefits really. Unless you are looking to stay wherever you are and have your child blend into cadaan society.

Sorry blackvelvet but people fall in-love within the milleu of social and economic factors you cannot remove it from the equation. Lets be honest you would rather go for someone you have more in common with regard to experience and ethnically that meets the criteria you described. Also, the indiviualistic perspective is hogwash. You are saliently connected to the Somali community whether you like it or not.

sophisticate speak for yourself, I am not so engrossed in the Somali community that all other ethnicities vanish from my line of vision. Yes I would prefer a Somali for the sake of my children's sense of identity. Nevertheless that is not to say that there is this invisible thread which ties me to the Somali community and dictates who I can or cannot build a life with - that is the hogwash

Well damn. Sorry to mislead you, but I'm 100% Somali-Arab who inexplicably just so happens to do a good Nigerian impression.

BlackVelvet I am speaking for myself. You are too old to influence, plus you have agency and autonomy. A gun-point approach would not work.

I just come from a different ideological vantage point when it comes to "out-marriage." Do not be offended. I was born and bred in North America and I have friends from every walk of life, so I don't really see what the hype is about. Plus, I see anjabis only as friends not romantic prospects. That's just me though. To each his own.

I told you, until I hear an equally convincing Somali one you are Nigerian in my books. And even then I'd probably think you've asked one of your friends to do it

BlackVelvet wrote::roll: You are an individual, people need to stop factoring in the whole of the Somali community when it comes to this topic.

If you met a man who loved you and was in it with you, who had your back and you could count on, who could be a good friend and husband and a good father to your children. A man who wanted to go on the journey of spiritual enrichment with you and was loyal - you'd be an idiot not to give him a chance because of the body his soul was put in. Now I pray to God that man is not OG or Abgaal even if it's a massive contradiction  But my point still stands. :|
