He has every right since those citizens being murdered where Somali like him. Or is what you saying because those dead people were not of his tribe he should not care.

Infact any intelligent person who can read and who ignores any tribal bias will lay the current catastrophic state of the Somali peninsula at the door of this dead man.

He hijacked a new infant democracy with a lot of potential and turned into his and his tribes playground. He cultivated deep hatred between tribes and set the stage ready for the apocalyptic end that followed...
Pretty much.

Afweyne's crimes are many, but the two greatest in my opinion are (1) Staging a coup in against a promising, young democracy (2) Staging the counter-coup against the talented young Generals Aynanshe and Salaad Gabeyre. Who knows where the Somali republic would be if those men succeeded.

1969-1991: We gotta get rid of this Siyaad nigga, such a f-king authoritarian cunt.

1991: Finally free, now the Somali National Movement can re-instill a sense of nationalism that transcends qabiil lines, the United Somali Congress can introduce a real congressional democracy, and the Somali Salvation Democratic Front can save the fabric of Somali society from generations of totalitarianism.

The SNM dont have too many regrets though as they got almost everything they wanted after the collapse of the gov. One could argue with the absence of central somali government that the others namely the SPM, USC and SSDF (but there were a hell of a lot more that sprouted up in the early 90s) lost out as in suffered more.

lol, I just find the whole situation incredibly ironic.

The Somali National Movement's first act was to declare unilateral secession, the only thing united or remotely democratic about the United Somali Congress was their appetite for indiscriminate destruction, and one of the first acts of the Somali Salvation Democratic Front was to spearhead Ethiopia's 1982 attempted invasion of central Somalia. Apparently the Ethio's were also interested in our salvation.

I've said this for what seems like forever, but how the fuck do you pull off a widely successful and popular coup and fuck it up so spectacularly in a matter of weeks? Other African countries led by niggas who actually ate human f-king beings, iskaba iloow xasuuqs and shit, have managed to pull themselves together and pick up where the other guy left off i.e. another repressive but relatively stable government.

Somalis tho

It's ironic but the rebel movement's "political" objectives in the name of the country were a guise for what was simply clan fueled grievances, problem is the government played into that and in some cases gave them a legitimate justification.
I recall watching a video where the USC leaders distanced themselves from the manifesto movement and the regime's call for mediation and to step down. Siad Barre it seems was willing to give up power in the very last days (however i could be wrong as it's possible that it was a ploy). The fact that they were looking for a military solution while the country could have been saved is evidence that they had other (mischevious) agendas apart from overthrowing the government.

But from the last days and aftermath of the collapse of the government it was clear that the rebel movement that overthrew the government were never interested in the integrity and stability of the nation as a whole but were more interested in propping up the power of their clan and avenging their losses and also destroying the power of another clan, something somalis have been doing for a millennial just in a much more unethical and brutal manner.

I think Dr. Yalaxow's comments on another thread summed it up pretty well. iirc he said he initially supported USC's efforts against a government most people had come to identify as repressive and genuinely believed Somalia would be better off with their ouster. Like I've said before, I can't blame anyone for that line of thinking because, let's be honest, where else has a successful coup led to nearly a quarter century of chaos and the ignominy of being the world's first and only failed state. Governments come and go, hated leaders are overthrown, and states always go on after a few shaky months during the adjustment period. After the first few months when it became clear that the new leaders were more interested in hastening the Somali apocalypse than running a modern nation state, disillusionment set in and with it, the inevitable realization that he was better off under a shitty but ultimately functioning government.

SSDF captured two somali towns( Balambale and Goldogob) but Siad Barre survived this Ethiopian/SSDF foray.

The SNM have no regret i am not sure if this question was asked to the SNM elites President siilaanyo Muse Biixi Abdiraxman tolwa and Mr Yasin , and many others who are still alive and have helped reconstruct Somaliland. if they had any regret if it was all over 1980 again. SNM goal was to remove the dictator and to rebuild a democratic Somali state , where 2 to components Somalia and Somaliland re model a renewed Somali republic, based on those to states. Now the south fell into anarchy the SNM declared independence and build one of the few democracies in Africa in the Somaliland republic.

General afweyne if he wanted to continue to govern over the Somali republic and even let his son succeed him Maslax. He should have never messed with the Isaaq livestock trade. And he should have really listened to Isaaq grievances in Somali galbeed at that time when the WSLF Darod Ogaden wing was hunting down Isaaq nomads. Isaaq elites went to MBS 3 times and he never really listened, afaraad broke away and than distributed guns to the isaaq nomads to actively fight the WSLF and later the SNM was formed and afaraad became direct unit under the SNM led by Colonel Muhammad Ali unfortunate Muhammad ali was a former Col in the Somali army who 4 years before that was fighting against Mengistu. Now he was forced to fight the WSLF funded by the regime in Xamar who were giving a free pass to fight against isaaq. Ina sheikh madar than said a mah mah and said the following ina siyaad bare wu ka amuusnay amasuuntuna wa ogalaansho talo baynu gaadhayna 8 hamood eeh reer sheikh isxaaq. And the Isaaq people conference was held in Jedda al Muctamar shacbu Isxaaq and SNM was formed.
