My friend who's "Ahlul Bayt" (Shia) whose family got ties to the high priests and ruling elite of Iran is also T1a.

Just found out today.

Who knows, Somalis that carry T1a might be descendants of the soldiers from the Achaemenid Empire that once ruled the last dynasties of Ancient Egypt and North East Africa before the Ptolemaic rule. A possible explanation to the small but concentrated pockets of T1a found throughout the old world.

Haplogroup T1a was established in the Horn long before the inception of the Achaemenid Empire.

OP, your heading has some merit to it. Every large Somali clan has sheegad. The larger the clan, the higher the probability of a confederation. Anything under 20% - 25% sheegad is okay, doesn't change the clan calculus as much.

That is one line of thought that crossed my mind. Hopefully we will find out more when they further examine our T1a variety.

The wrong conclusion would be it was an imported haplogroup from Persia which is farther from the truth. I am inclined to believe (hypothesize) that haplogroup T1a came upstream from the Nile, before that, T's origins precursor was what was much later described as the Levant.

The Achaemenid Empire was preceded by the Land of Punt, perhaps Proto-Somalis -- and Proto-Somalis with T? I think there was human presence in the Horn in the later stages of the Neolithic era. These people dealt extensively with Pharaonic Egypt hundreds of years before a formation of a Persian empire.

Lastly, Cyrus and Persians phenotype is totally different from today's and past Somalis. Improbability that change could have happened in only 2,000 years since Achaemenid Empire. The divergent occurred in the Levant and not an imported haplogroup from Persia.

The Egyptian origin of Somali haplogroup T is a safe bet, I agree. However, its age in the Horn is a more complex matter. A TMRCA of two millenniums or so would indicate a founder effect so what happened to population that this ancestor descended from? If there was a large population T haplogroup people in the North how come we only have one group of people that are the result of a founder effect?

Phenotypes can change dramatically over a short period of time depending on the rate of miscegenation hence that argument is shaky.

Let's wait and see what those scientists dig up on Somali T1a.

Brother, I do not know what that cataclysmic event would entail. It couldn't have been wars that led to genocide; maybe, just maybe, it was a natural event that took its toll.

It would be nice to know what happened to an entire population but for one or a very few male relatives that we owe our existence to ... got to pay homage to those Faraxs, for without them we won't be discussing this topic.

Sheikh Haplogroup T AUN ... :) .

Considering our historic status as the first Somali dynasty I believe that we are patrinlieally district because of the founder effect rather than a large stable population that was reduced by some cataclysmic effect. Our preponderance in the North and ancestral burial grounds might suggest our ancestor established himself among an already existing population and we gradually became assimilated into the host population.

AUN Awowo lol
