A UN article I saw last year before the advent of the Habash in Somalia estimated that the rate was between 1 and 2 percent of total population, concentrated mostly in the port cities. The implication seemed to be that it was sailors bringing it in. The prognosis was that, once you exceed 1 percent, the growth of the infected population will be geometric.
