Can any one offer me advice? I would be most grateful. I am an American man. I am about 45 years old, white Caucasian, divorced Roman Catholic. Recently I began taking interpreter classes in my town, and the first day made friends with a young woman from Somalia. Now, we will be be class mates for the next several weeks, and have been communicating by e-mail. She is only 20-25 yrs. old, I believe, and of course Muslim. She is very friendly, and a very pretty young woman, and has indicating that she would like to develop a friendship with me.
The most important thing for me is to honor her, do what is proper, and always respect her. My question is for Somali people that are reading this: Do I run away, and not even consider a relationship with her? Just remain friends only. Or do I just wait and let what ever develop and play things by ear? Or am I being simply unrealistic?
I await your kind response(s). May God bless.

OK, first of all, don't listen to these dumb racist people on here. They don't have enough sense to give an intelligent reply.
So that shows their stupidity and ignorance.
On to your question... NO YOU DON'T RUN AWAY! LOL. Just treat her like a lady, just as you would any woman from your own culture. Be nice to her, listen to her, and most important, respect her culture. It would also be good if you learned a little about her culture and her history. Ask her questions about her life and her family, and make sure you remember the things you learn about her. Last but not least, just be yourself (assuming you are a decent guy) and let things flow naturally. Good luck.
And for you ignorant people that have something to say that isn't nice......get a life...
Dear soldier,
God bless you. I don't know what country, religion, culture, or background you come from, nor do I know if you are a man or a woman. What I do know, is that your response was very appreciated, intelligent and sensative. Whoever you are, you are most kind.
Of course I would never do anything to disrespect her, nor any Somali woman. I would never do anything to disrespect any woman. I have gotton to know her, and I feel already blessed because I have gotton to know a little about the history, culture and language of Somalia.
Thank you soldeir531 G-d bless you whoever you are.
