Kambuli, May-May is one hell of a tongue to master!
Seriously though, I think each regional dialect reflects the culture of its inhabitants.
For example:
In Mudug, rough terrain, inter-clan wars, etc. have affected Mudug accent, thus that's why we see Mudug accent as harsh.
Barawaani dialect is very soft-spoken and ressembles coastal Swahili, its also rich in domestic vocabulary. A Barawaani knows the name of a dish by many names, others don't know it by more than 1 name.

Shabelle, Jubba & Banadir regions are also considered Konfureed and there is great similarities between the dialects spoken in these regions regardless of clans.
Gedo might resemble the accent spoken in Central Somalia, closer to Mudug accent than Konfureed.
I could be wrong though.
Koronto I think thats the case, because I one time had some some family friends come over (Abgal), and boy did I have a tough time understanding them. They abbreviate everything. Then I asked my pops about it, and he said around Shabeelaha they have their own accent. But again, I've never met an Ogaden person, so I guess I have no idea how their accent sounds. Also I would think Marehans accent resembles central Somalia since they only migrated to Gedo around the late 1800's from Galbeed and Hawd. Infact I think Absame and Marehan came together (Read Sade History blog), so they probably kept their lahjads.

Personally, you can't tell what clan I am, simply from listening to my accent. We moved around so much, I've picked up different dialects, it's nausiating.
Seriously though, within the past couple of year,I have improved tremendously. I didnt grow up around family or Somalis, so therefore, I had limited exposure to the language. Now, I speak nothing but Somali and hopefully, like i"m being told, I'm going to sound reer Galkacyood in few years.

Luq-Ganane,
My accent is a disgrace to my Ogaden heritage, evertyime my cousins see me, they are disgusted, because they expect me to speak like I just came from Garissa..
Ogaden in Jubba speak like their neighbors and those in Kenya & Ethiopia resemble each other.

Koronto, do you speak like the Reer Hassan! They live in Ethiopia/Kenya, and they have this funny interesting accent. Its like they stretch everything, I can't really describe it but they live in that area. Theres this one Degodia Imam of a Masjid in my area, and he speaks like them. I'm thinking it might be a regional (Reer Xassan, Ogaden, Degodia) dialect?

Luq-Ganane,
I know what accent you are referring to, but No, I don't have that accent, I speak like ciyaal Xamar. I think I might have a clue as to who the Degodiye dude you are talking about is. Are you in VA?

No, brah, I am in Atlanta, but I've heard of Sh. AQ, he was friends with my older brother years ago, didn't know he became an imaam though.
Masha Allah, I am happy for him!
