Siad Barre was not brought down by a conventional armed force. Siad Barre was brought down because of the clannish divisions of the Somalis. Do you know the story of the great Axmed Gurey?

He was born near Zeilac, port city of Adal Sultanate. When he was a young kid, his Adal Sultanate was constantly harrased by Ethiopians, they came into Adal once in a while, wrecked havoc, demanded tributary money from Adal etc. Finally, at the end the ruler of Adal died, and Adal Sultanate decended into anarchy and fragmentation for several years whereby many persons vied for power. Finnaly Axmed Gurey came victorious out of this anarchy and brief period of struggle for power of Adal Sultanate. When he became the sole leader of Adal and defeated all his opponents, he began his legendary military campaigns against the Habasha empire.

He made them pay heavily for what the Habasha emporers did to his land and people when he was a young kid. These bitter defeats at the hands of Axmed Gurey left deep scars on the mind of Habasha.
