Darn, I feel like I'm in the middle of a bad movie. Now they're saying that "Azzam the American" is the author of the latest OBL video: Confused

US loner helps bin Laden to taunt Bush

"American spy chiefs were quick to name Adam Gadahn, the head of al-Qaeda's English language media operations, as the author of large sections of bin Laden's broadcast.

Last October, the 28-year-old "loner" became the first American charged with treason since 1952, for appearing in a succession of al-Qaeda videos under the guise of "Azzam The American", in which he condemned globalisation and made American cultural references.

He was charged in his absence, as he is thought to be near to bin Laden, almost certainly in the tribal areas of Pakistan."

My opinion on Osama Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda network is quite sketchy at best, but could be closer to reality than we believe.

Al Qaeda started as a small Western/Pakistani-supported anti-Communist guerrilla movement in the last few years of the Soviet-Afghan war, made up of primarily Arab mercenaries, or Mujahideen as called by the West. These mercenaries were unemployed at the end of the war and the growing rift between the American/Arab oil states and militant Islam has left these mercenaries without a home, so they stayed in Afghanistan to build the massive Al Qaeda network. The United States then proceeded to stop payments to these mercenaries and were later adopted full-time by Osama Bin Laden, whom they adopted as their leader. In 1989, at the end of the Soviet-Afghan war, Al Qaeda became a full-fledged de facto empire and a contender for world power. This power struggle between Al Qaeda and the United States exist to this day and continue to escalate.

Just the opinion I've held for a few years now.
