Some people who don' have a bank account go to check cashing places, so that they can cash their paychecks, tax return checks, Western Union, etc. They are very common in black or low income area.

I think its mostly people who have a poor credit history or people who have a phobia about banking institutions. I once met a white man who never had a driver's license, bank account, never paid any utilities; because he lived alone in the woods. I met him at a hospital.

I would think these situations would involved blacks, so it is shocking that Somalis or whites would be involved in that type of behavior. Living in the woods? Well guess that is his excuse.

Some Somalis believe that Western banking institutions are Riba based, therefore they keep their money at home.

Some white people believe in their privacy so much that they do not allow any type of interference from the government. They are mostly separatists and are common in places like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, etc. Did you ever watch Micheal Moore's documentary entitled: "Columbine High"? He talked about them in detail.

The people who keep their money home, must not have a lot of money to begin with. There is no way, people can just have 10,000 lying on their bed! It can cause enormous stress, I presume.

Somali people are stubborn! I wouldn't trust myself keeping that kind of money lying around at home, but they do. A dude in my city who owns a restaurant & deals in Khat used to keep his money at home, some Somali punks finally got word of this and broke in and stole around $25,000 cash...

That money was Haram, so it needed to be stolen (not that I agree with what occurred) but he deserved it. Have you noticed there are no secrets in Somali communities? Why would he even tell anyone he had money in his house?

Yes, I noticed that a long time ago. Somalis by nature are too inquisitive and blabber-mouths, both men & women. I hate asking anyone personal questions, but they never waste anytime firing questions at you, that is if you give them a chance. I usually make a run for it, if I sense the questions are coming, including my own relatives.

I would think it is more difficult for the women, specially unmarried sisters?

I remember when people use to come over, they would ask these questions.

1.)How was school, what do you want to be when you grow up?

2.)Where is your report card? (Or the ones from previous semesters)

3.) Always give you frightening situations that do not exist but only in their mind.


And the stares from head to toe, would compel a grown man to soil himself. So when anyone heard noises or saw mysterious cars they would have to wait outside the door fix themselves completely.

So I learned when I was younger to come in, look around, not take my shoes off and run to my room as if I were Marion Jones.
