Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
Yes, some parts of Somalia were better off under the ICU, but there are also many parts of Somalia that are better off under the TFG.

Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
Muqdisho is better under the TFG. God bless teh brave soldiers for fighting against the hutubans and the moryons who strive on looted properties, cars, business and what not.

Sadaam waxa qarkood wa laga dhawadaa, how does barre work himself??? Barre works for the betterment of the Somali people, don't associate him with both of those entities.

Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
Ignorant elements of the ICU forced Barre to take a side. Very dumb.
Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
I would've preferred the ICU rule in Banadir, simply because they had the support. If they stuck to Banadir and worked with others in other regions, we'd be in better shape now.
Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
100% better under the Islamic Courts. In their year of operations, only one person was killed, and it was during a khat protest/riot.
Bring back the Islamic Courts!! Just keep them where they're needed (the South).

Re: Somalia: Better Off under Islamic Courts?!
The answer is NO.
If only they practiced what they claimed. They should have ruled based on the Sharia, just like they claimed when they first appeared on the scene. Obviously they deluded themselves into thinking they were doing just that. The majority of Somalis supported them, before they crumpled right in front of their eyes. At the beginning I honestly thought the Islamic courts were doing a pretty good job, and I supported them, no one can deny the fact that they brought back some degree of stability in Xamar. Sadly it all ended tragically with the death of thousands of innocent children and Women.
Let's face it, as Somalis we are lacking sincere politicians who are willing to govern Somalia by the rule of the Sharia, the Courts came very close, but close doesn't count.

True!
Denying the UIC of their accomplishments is just a delusion. Even non-Muslims & non-Somalis have documented their work in Banadir region, unfortunately they made some plunders which ultimately cost them more than they thought.
Allah knows what is best for his servants, let's leave it at that!

Nabeela,
Don't be sad, walaal! Waxan oo dhan waa wax mar hore la qoray, before either of us were born, all of this was already pre-ordained. The best we can do is pray for the best and stay away from clan obsessing.
Just remember every Ummah that is punished, there is a reason for it!
