[quote="marcassmith"]what is there to be optimistic about, for goodness sake, the somali community has been here (In the UK) for far too long and has achieved so little.
perhaps you could tell me, how we could move forward.

You made some decent points until this one.
The Indians/Asian migration to the United Kingdom did not start to make a postive adapatiion until the 3rd generation this is merely how a ethnic culture who have migrated to the UK survive, in our situation we are in our 2nd generation its the time now to decide whether we can be a success .
the somali community is using its victim mentality to claim unproportionate benefits.
poles, and eastern europeans, who have been here less than 2 yrs have achieved so much.
now there seems to be a polish shop opening for every khat-house (marafesh)- see the connection. poles have displaced somalis and other ethnic minorities in the job market
Instead of Somalis comparing themselves to the Indians who have been here since the 60s we should look at why the Poles are making such strives in a short amount of time. The fact of the matter is, their work ethic much better than Somalis who are very willing to take handouts because its easy access.
I think you guys need to talk to the MPs to do something about the benefits system. Something that allows people to weed themselves off it. Also, khat must be ILLEGAL. Too many male youths are losing their lives to that drug.
where i live there seems to be a new khat-house every month.
these bastards (the sellers) have destroyed the lives of our community and they target the young males. they have destroyed the lives of a whole generation.
