Re: Islamization and Arabization
Even though Somalis are Muslims, it's obvious that Somalis can't associate & interact with Arabs in any form & shape. It's a well known fact that Arabs treat Somalis so badly during all this appalling & suffering times. Somalis feel much better and would rather prefere to live in other foreign countries than to live in an Arab one. Why you may ask? Simple, it's because Arabs Hate Somalis, and Somalis can't stand with that hatred. As a result of this, no Somali in his right mind would allow himself to be Arabized!

FAH1223 : i didnt say dont use but it shouldnt be forced onto those who dont wanna use it. Arabman wants us all to change to the arabic script and abandon our own Customs and traditions for Arabic ones.
Arabman to come in here and try to convince us that our traditions and customs are flawed and we should adopt some arabic ones is bullshit.
According to Dictionary.com:
Islamization:
1. to convert to Islam.
2. to bring into a state of harmony or conformity with the principles and teachings of Islam; give an Islamic character or identity to............
What's happening in Somalia is Islamization, which is positive. .
Saxib, Somalis have been Muslims ever since the prophet Mohamed (PBUH) was alive. They are proud Muslims with long history steeped in struggle and conquest of the Horn of Africa as a great achievement. We don't need a new version of Islam.

"The Qadiriyah, the oldest order in Islam, was founded in Baghdad by Abd al Qadir al Jilani in 1166 and introduced into Harer (Ethiopia) in the fifteenth century. During the eighteenth century, it was spread among the Oromo and Somalis of Ethiopia, often under the leadership of Somali shaykhs."

Re: Islamization and Arabization
Somalia was part of what it used called the Land of the Black. You will even find Cushitic terms in the Qur'an like Waaq, which means God.
The King that welcomed the few followers of the prophet, Negus, mentions in his royal chronicles Somalis as one of the people reduced by his recent military campaigns.
Connect the dots and see where I am coming from.

As evidenced by recent events, forced secularization by the colonial masters has corrupted the leaders and elders of many Somalis. Secularization has introduced clan bigotry, corruption, nepotism, treason, collaboration with occupying/colonizing forces, etc. Somalia is where it's today because of secularization. Islamization is needed to reverse the evils of secularization.

Re: Islamization and Arabization
Somali2003,
The Prophet Muhammad (saw) lived for less than 70 years. In his time of prophecy, after the age of 40, he had 30 years to put Islam on the map. His conquests never surpassed Arabia and the Levant. Islam spread East and West of the Levant region AFTER the prophet's death. Somalia received Islam in the 12th century, that is the claim of every great historian and it is the only reasonable answer. We should be proud that we got the religion so early, but to claim that the religion reached us during the time of the prophet, that's ludicrous and an outright lie. Malaysia and Bosnia received the prophet's word 300 years after the Cushitic tribes.
Advocatar,
Read the whole thing, it carries no mention of Imam Ahmed, he could be referenced under the "Harer" part.
"...and introduced into Harer (Ethiopia) in the fifteenth century. During the eighteenth century, it was spread among the Oromo and Somalis of Ethiopia, often under the leadership of Somali shaykhs."
Meaning, not all Somalis and Oromos were Muslim at that point, probably less than 20%. I've heard claims that southern Somali/Oromo groups like the Garre didn't become Muslim until the late colonial era.

Re: Islamization and Arabization
Saxib don't distort the direction of our points. I don't need to know the history of Islam from you, but just understand that Somalis were the first to embrace Islam as Negus himself converted to Islam in a covert way.

Re: Islamization and Arabization
What the hell does that have to do with when Islam reached Somalia? Can you even provide a single link or paper source to your claim? What does some Negus guy have to do with the time in which Islam reached Somalia?
This is the chronology of this issue:
--->You said Islam reached Somalia during the time of the Prophet (early 7th century). You failed to provide a source.
--->I provided a respectable source pointing to the 12th century as the entry point of Islam in Somalia.
--->You start talking about some Negus guy...
I don't know where you want this to go. Brush up on your history lessons.
