Diib Somali,
The first Marexaan emigrated from our traditional degaan in Nugaal, Hawd present day Sool.. The first ones arrived in Gedo in the late 1800's and the emigration continued until recently.
As far as Present day region of Awdal it was created along with several of the other regions like Galgudud, Sool etc. before there was only Mudug, and only Hawd but things got bunched up. So when you hear Awdal in Fatuh Al Habashah don't think that there referring to that tiny little emirate on the present day map.
I agree but did u ask urself why the place was named Awdal
Also every major city that has significance during the Adel empire battles is located in present day Awdal or atleast less than 50 miles from it. The place were us the somali society fortune turned is a place called Amoud today where many thousands of those souls lost during that heavy battle are buried today. 8)

Voltage, most somalis in the north behave as if they lived in caves their entire life. They are extremely ignorant of everything that happens outside of the triangle wallahi. Even the educated ones will shock you with their amazingly ignorant statements sometimes.
Do you know why they call the people of the south Walaweyn? It is a funny story that shows how truly ignorant they are of everything and everyone south of Burco.

Yeah I know, cuz of the votes in 1960's when the town of Wallawayn had much more votes than people it could ever posses, so they picked up as the symbol of southern corruption

Re: AHMED GUREY FROM AWDAL (PASSAGE FROM THE BOOK OF FATAHAL HAB
People should be really carefull with history, this is a slippery field which requires objectiveness and caution.
Most Somali people do not posses those qualities of objectiveness and patience, and thus will jump at the first reference of their clan, and start circulating it.
Hence the widespread misconceptions some people have created of Imam Gurey, and Ibn Nuur.
I would say: read history very carefully and objectivelly. History books are different then fiction.
The background of Imam Gurey, from the only reliable source which everyone bases itself on ''The Conquest of Abbysinia'' it becomes unclear what his origin is i.e clanbackground. Heck it even is unclear in that account whether he is Arab, Somali, Adali etc etc. The only glue can be since his bulk of armies were Somali tribes and he could influence them, that he was probably Somali.
Bear in mind that the account has been based on Arab version, with an Arab writer...that in my opinion talks negative about Somalis on particular occasions.
