My brother & I went back to Xamar June 2006 to recover my father's looted houses in Hodan. Both houses were occupied by HG families since 1991, we offered them up to $5k each family to return our houses, but they refused. It took a HG ICU judge 3 days to make the families return the houses. We sold them both sometime after that.

My adeer went last November stayed there for a little bit then went to hajj. He said it was good. Really nice and the peace and calm there was amazing.

Did you have to pay for them or the judge told them to leave without you paying anything?

wow, you got your property back, how much you sell it for

our premises had people selling goods on the corner

the houses now are used by TFG troops and the Ugandans, but the Ugandans left elsewhere

We didn't pay the judge, but we did pay the moving expenses of one of the families, because it was just some kids and their mom, the dad had died years before. The other family tried to pull a stunt at the moving date, but Sh. Abdirahman brought some ICU soldiers and the family got scared and moved.

We weren't the only ones though, a lot of Daarood families had returned and claimed their houses, including a wife of Xoosh who had some homes in Madina returned to her. As long as you presented the deeds and brought witnesses, the ICU had a committee that investigated and the looters were given anywhere from a day to 7 days depending on the investigation.

Both houses were in bad condition. One house was in a horrible condition, but it was right near Sh. Ali Sufi Masjid, so it fetched for around $13k. The other house was in a better condition and was in a good neighborhood, it fetched for about 18K.

I'm going InshaAllah myself, my relatives live there and their late father, a Reer Xamar used to be filthy rich. They started a business over there a few years back and invited me to visit them, show me around and all that. They told my dad that our land at Jazeera beach was still untouched, thank goodness.


Mogadishu is more my hometown than many millions others that claim the city. We've been there since the 30s.
