Do you know how it feels to be subjugated in 400Years of servitude?

GB, Societies are made up of individuals.
But if we want to stick to individuals, are you familiar with hydroquinone creams? Do you think society applies those, or do individual women?

B-MAX,
No, I don't...but what's your point? I've seen African Americans that are Muslims shake off 400 years of servitude. BTW, nobody is a slave for 400 years....the collective psychological damage doesn't accumulate.
I want a people who were born free to consider themselves free and not wield insecurities.
The Arabs were worthless before Islam & it was the Romans & Persians who considered Arabs as lowly.
I have dealt with Afrocentrists, I have dealt with Nation of Islam & they start talking to you about either how superior you are or or how superior you once were.
PragmaticGal,
I know of such creams. I also know of tanning salons. I wish I was 6ft + but does that make me insecure as a person vis a vis taller people?

GB, yes the fact that you wish you were taller makes you insecure about your height.
And there's only a superficial parallel between tanning salons and whitening creams. One says "I'm wealthy enough to have gotten sunburned while wind-surfing in Barbados", the other is applied in shameful secrecy to correct what is seen as a defect.

Re: Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt
OK, let me rephrase...I am not insecure about my height as it stands....but my point is that people are always doing things to either fit in or try to improve on something.
Now for you to say that whitening creams are an insecurity of dark skin while tanning is not quite an insecurity is just not fair. Women do it because they see pale skin as an ugly feature.
Haven't you heard the phrase: "Tall, dark, and handsome" ..."Latin lover".....pale is just as much a stigma to the pale person as dark skin is to a dark person.
I went to school in Texas & I saw a lot of whites going to tanning salons. The advertising, marketing of tanning salons never says anything about social status......sexual attraction is the reason women tan.
Apparently, their skin looks 'healthy' when they tan.....isn't that an insecurity?
But that quote speaks directly about the British WW2 observation about the Somalis and how they immediately attributed it to Islam.

Re: Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt
GB, yes, tanned skin is about social status. A hundred years ago having really pale skin was considered sexually attractive. Do you know why? Because a woman of good breeding (read: nice dowry) wasn't a peasant who worked the land and got exposed to the elements. Likewise today only the rich can afford holidays in the sun in December. Your Texan classmates watch TV/movies, they want to look like the rich and famous. What's considered sexually attractive is deeply tied into social status, I thought that was obvious.
And I would agree with you regarding whitening creams if it was all random. If Somalis preferred lighter skin in addition to having kinky hair or flat noses, then obviously there would be no damning pattern. But by some amazing coincidence they want to be pale skinned, narrow nosed and straight-haired. If that isn't a racial inferiority complex I don't know what is.

Re: Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt
You're talking about insecurities on a feminine personal level. You keep framing the conversation in such terms.
I'm talking about an inferiority complex as a race. That is, do Somalis believe that Caucasians are inherently better than them? If you say yes, then I don't know what kind of household you grew up in.
However, let me show you that even that is wrong.
Caucasians do this too, why are blondes looked upon among Caucasians as pretty? Can we say Caucasians have an inferiority complex because they consider a feature not universally prevalent among their group as prettier?
Blonde hair is a small percentage of Caucasians, but its a feature endemic to Caucasians. You can't take a feature subset endemic to your own race and say you have an inferiority complex because people in your race like that feature. That feature is characteristic of at least a group within your race.
The problem is that you ascribe straight hair, the light skin Somalis like, or straight noses as features that are indigenous to Caucasians or foreign to Somalis in general. Your starting premise is wrong.
If we saw masses of Somali women dying their hair blond, then now you could begin to say there is an inferiority complex.
Why? Because that feature is not endemic or indigenous to Somalis.
That's like whites who get tans being accused of trying to look more negroid just because they are tanning their skin.
Those features are not white features, those features are endemic to ethnic Somalis and they liked those features well before the 1st white man arrived. In fact, Somali nomads thought the first Europeans had a skin disease.
Stop framing everything with either whites or Caucasians as the reference point. They did not impose those likes on Somalis.
P.S - I never had a problem with the dark skinned Somali girls. In fact, some of my biggest childhood crushes were dark girls.
