I got my Bachelors in Fahdi Ku Diirir at the Donut shop. My specialization was in the USC Affairs and I did a thesis on the "Manifesto Groups: The Trojan Horse"

Useless degree subjects are a waste of time.
Studying real skills, that are in demand i.e teachin, medicine, nursing, accounting, computer science etc. Something that can forge a worthwhile career.

MJ, I wish more & more Somalis both male & female would enroll Nursing schools. Nursing has many fields you can specialize in, you can be ER Nurse (Mostly males), you can specialize in cardiology, in delivery/OB-Gyn etc they can even go for nurse practioner and open your own clinic. For anyone who is concern about Job security, nursing is the way to go. Also the pay is not bad ($30+ per hour) entry level and flexible hours.
how interested are somalis on criminology?
any students in here?
Biko, I know many Somalis with Criminal Justice/Criminology degree. In my immediate family without revealing their relationship to me, there is one who is now attending police academy and another one who works for the state department he is now based overseas.
There are plenty of jobs available for that degree, you can work for Agencies in the government Homeland security, Revenue services etc......

Re: somali university students and political science
Nursing don't pay that much, it is one of the most noble professions though, but just like Teachers they are under-appreciated....Poly-sci on the other hand is a stepping stone to Law school, 90% of those that I have met in school majoring in poly sci either aspired to go to or attended law school...
Re: somali university students and political science
Why are you guys hating on ME? Lol I studied Pol Sci and it was great. I have a great job, preparing to get an MBA (by the way MBA grads consist of 60% college of Libreal Arts students ) and will get married to a great Farax.. Life is good wallalhi.. and I make more than some of my "nursing " friends.
Re: somali university students and political science
Part of the reason is people feel they need to go to college just to go to college.
It's a lot easier saying: "I'm a University student" than to say: "I'm unemployed"
I'm all for Skinnies picking majors that offer real tangible skills, even if it's a vocational or technical school.
Even if you do PoliSci, at least do it b/c it's a passion & not b/c you just have to have a major.

Nursing is hard work and less pay, nurses make as much as high school teachers, they are much underappreciated.

It is that time again, I can only post two lines at a time...
zulaika, lets just give these students credit for attending school instead of wasting their life and dreaming of becoming the next warlord in Somalia lol.
why are they all majoring in political science? i don't get it. first of all, almost half of em' are in it for the wrong reasons...thinking its gonna avail them with some notoriety of social political awareness..walking around campus exuding "fock to establishment" attitude with the Palestinian scarf wrapped around their necks while sippin' on starbucks coffee. lol.
to those that can materialize this discipline(political science) into an actual career, go for it, laakin' the rest need to stop wasting student loans on something they have little to no earnest interest in and study something that can produce a viable life long plan for them.
sorry if I've offended any political science students in here, nothing personal. LOL.
zulaika, i here you girl, there are lotta students like that but not just in political science subject, other subjects too. i myself study a political/social science subject, and im soooo passionate about it. walahi you dont know how desperate i am of helping the poor and needy but most importantly the ignorant somalis back home.

one of my good friends i went to college with is a nurse practitioner..she now works in the states earning more than $100,000/year. even the RN's are in the $50,000+ income bracket. yes i do agree that its a hard work but we cannot deny the demand for this profession and its income potential...in North America and world wide, I've heard of ridiculous salary offers in the U.A.E + accommodation and transportation for western trained nurses.
