I had only very rare contact with other PC people and was never "de-briefed" by anyone. What would I have been snitching on?

Your conjectures are offensive.

I was there as the guest of the Somali Government, representing the Peace Corps and the highest ideals of the Kennedy Administration. I believe we all acted accordingly. I know I tried to. The half-Italian girl was a married woman. Somali women were not running to jump in my bed.

On those rare occasions I had sex, it was paid for; usually arranged by a government official (yes!), or a friend. I can't say I am proud of any of it; sex outside marriage is not part of my religious heritage, either.

We needed a lot of teachers like yourself and as I've heard the Somali people were happy to have you and were eager to learn as much as they could to truly become independant. Unfortunately almost 5 decades later, we have barely moved forward as a people.

It seemed longer than it actually was.

Folks were poor and illiterate, but we were all involved in nation-building, and we all got along. We did NOT discuss qabiil or religion.
