One option for you is to Be like them(waris iyo ta kale) and ignore what Somalis will say about you. The women you listed as your role model don't care about Islam and God, consequently, they don't care about what Somalis think. That is where their indifference to what somalis think comes from. You have it backwards. If these two cared about their community's reaction to their conduct, it would mean they had faith to begin with that makes them understand their choices were immoral, materialistic, hedonistic and instinctive, they would hide in shame or question their choices. Obviously, you lack their will to go naked and you have some hope left still.

First of all, as a suggestion, a better word you need to use to describe your insecurity about Somalis is "envy" and not "Jealousy". There is no reason to be jealous about something when you disapprove of the thing. Same with envy, there is nothing to envy but perhaps a better word for you to use The word "jealousy" doesn't convey your resentment against somalis. "Jealousy" has two meanings, one is ancient and the other modern. The ancient meaning has its roots in the greek word "zelos" meaning fervour, ardent desire, ardour. The modern meaning owes its influence to the french. Its equivalent word in the french means "Venetian Blind" which provides means of an observation and concealment. A jealous husband might spy on his unfaithful wife behind the venetian blind without being observed, that is what "jealousy" stands for in today's lexicon. Intense insecurity about your beloved and being intent to keep them by any means necessary. When it comes to the two women you mentioned or others like them, many somalis understandably disapprove certain aspects of their life because success is not defined only by being humanitarian or gaining wealth through unbecoming means. For the muslim somali, success is both having good relations with God, earning your money xalaal way and living decently. This is something these women have failed to do. They failed to combine aspects of legal material gain and mend their relations with God which is obvious from their profession. Some of them are on record fabricating lies about islam and muslims. Ayan is one example. The good deeds they do should be combined with the good relations necessary for those deeds to be accepted By God. That is what a muslim is supposed to do.


Finally, every ignorant somali woman whose first sense of civilization started with landing in the west thinks she has the right to bad mouth somalis. This usually is the case when the low life jaahilad likes to do something contradictory to her culture, from having a nonsomali boyfriend to being a model, they have one thing in common, to reflect their insecurity and contradictory existence on somalis blame them for their msiery. Such women/girls should lay off Somalis and do as they please, nobody cares. I don't for instance. And with this, do as you please but refrain from bad mouthing somalis. I am somali after all and won't stand on the sidelines watching an injustice heaped on somalis in general.

Trophy Wifey walaal..it is haraam in our religion to show the flesh. Those are not honourable professions and you cannot support any sister or brother who does that.

Waris Dirie will never have much success in her campaign against fgm. When was the last time she went to Somalia? What are the opinion of the local women there about her? Because of her modeling..she will never be able to have much credibility in the eyes of those women and girls back home..she will not be taken seriously and ppl will think shes coming with a western agenda. Her intentions are good..but who will lend her an ear in Somalia?

Now compare her with the Sisters who work from a grass roots level in Somalia..those who go to villages and towns to educate ppl.Women who actually live there. Women who have respect for their culture and their religion. They are doing a great job in Somalia.
