I have the outmost respect for my Father walaahi, without his discipline i wouldn't be who i am today. When all my friends where out having "fun", i was sitting at home revising and trying to make my Father proud.

While what you have said is indeed true the article was conveying a message of respect for one's parents in that you remain patient, and you show respect through being attentive when they speak to you. Of course there are different means of respecting one's parents and in that regard I completely understand your point.eyes-only wrote:Muwahhidah_1 wrote:Acting the way Abdullah Azzam (rahimahullah) explained just shows the level of respect you have for your parents. Your statement sounds very out of line. May Allaah forgive me if I am wrong.eyes-only wrote:You should respect your parents laakin I don't think there's any need to act like you're constipated around them.
There are many ways of showing respect for your parents, like listening to their advice, helping them in anyway you can, even washing and massaging their feet....laakin I don't think not relaxing in their presence is a show of respect in most cases- it could just mean that you're just sh!t scared of them.
How is you being not relaxed supposed to make them relaxed exactly? I'm sorry if you think I'm out of line, but the relationship with my parents is such that if I'm not relaxed in their presence...having a laugh, being myself, they would seriously be worried. Your home and family is supposed to provide a relaxed, loving and supportive environment for everyone to unwind with respect.

That was a nice read Lil cutie.
She was a young woman of amazing character, even as a child. It must have been tough as a young girl to witness your peaceful father being attacked by an angry mob of Godless adult men, most of them being her uncles, on a recurring basis. Even then, she was there for her father and was brave enough to seek confrontation with her father's enemies. She was the kind of daughter who made it terribly easy for her father to shower her with much love and affection.
The most important thing that I have noticed about Fatima bint Muhammad is the fact that she was always there for her father, Nebi Muhammad css could always count on her, especially after her mother's death. She provided Rasululah css with the needed comfort and solace in his struggle for the Deen. Another thing is that her father was her soulmate, in the apropriate sense of the word. As Rasululah css said, she was a part of him.
She's a great rolemodel to young Muslimas and male Muslims alike, her ascetism: how her character allowed her to give up on trivial matters and focus on what really matters, the deen, the family, the wider community, that's something we struggle with to this day and she can be our source of inspiration to make us choose wisely and to reflect and see our wrongdoings.
What did you think about it Lil Cutie, what touched you about Fatima?

Re: I never in my life relaxed in the presence of my father..
I was listening to this lecture once, and it was talking about the Prophet (saw) and his Companions ( peace be upon them all) they didn't have food for days. So the Prophet (saw) Abubakar (as) Omar bin Khataab (as) and other companions all came out - and the Prophet (saw) had a stone tied to his stomach because of the pangs of hunger ( Subhanallah) and so did Abubakar & Omar (as) so one other companion found out that the Prophet (saw) went for days without food - he invited him to his house - and they slaughtered the only lamb or goat they had. The Prophet (saw) before he even took a bite of the food, said, quick get this to Fatima she hasn't seen the likes of this food for days. Subhanallah. That really brought tears to my eyes. I only wish I had that kind of relationship with my father.

Jazakallahu khayr Firefly, Nebi Muhammad css was an exceptional father and that itself has a major effect on the children, who want to repay that love in the same way. Don't distress Firefly, joy is in the giving, blessing is in the struggle. Treat your father like Fatima treated her father and Allah swt will take care of the rest. You will find strength in that Firefly, I know where you're coming from. It can be hard sometimes.

Starscream:- Thanks for the advice walaal, it means a lot to me. I don't think I can be anything like Fatima (ra) but I'll try Insha-Allah.
