Because we are bunch of delusional folks who should feel ashamed of ourselves if we truly know the value of this day and honor it. What is there to celebrate, when we are killing each other and our country is the laughing stock of the world????

That is why I throw up whenever I see this flag :somalia: . It represents hate. People killed for their clans, dictatorships, mooryans and famine. It represents the forgotten people. How can anyone celebrate that. :?

Ismahan

Majority of the country is peacful, even parts of xamar are peaceful. The somali government and Sh sharif are working together for peace, there is no reason to be depressed. Good days are ahead.

No, we must not blame the flag but the people. That flag represents the true Somalis who died for it and its rich in history. They(current generations) need to realize the true meaning behind that flag and how it came to being.

How can a flag represent hate?

It may be that there is nothing good to celebrate; that is not the point. The point is that that day marks the beginning of Somali independence from the colonial powers and the hope of the union of the Somali people in strength and self-determination. If anything, it needs to be elaborated in the diaspora.

I don't care about the corrupt people back home, I don't care about the the 20 years of idiocy that has happened. I am still proud to call myself a son of Somalia and I say alhamdullilah that I come from a group of people who are Muslims, who have a history we can rejoice in, and having the fresh prospects of helping those back home in whatever we decide to do with our lives one day, insha allah.

BTW, Murax quit the qabyalaad.

Self-Hate doesn;t get you anywhere. The hell with pessimism...our Prophet SAW was optimisitic even in the times when it appeared he wouldn't complete his mission, we need to just be hopeful no matter how long things take. Everything in this world comes to end whether it be life, wealth, and wars...they all end...nothing in this world is everlasting!

The reality is depressing, but giving up is truely the worst thing one can do. I think this thread is perfect, somalis need to something to lift their spirits, something to bring us together.
