Somalia's problem began when they declared war on Kenya, then Ethiopia. This is the root cause of suspicion towards Somalis, and thats why Kenya and Ethiopia will never want to see a united, unified greater Somalia. They dont even want to see an end to the civil war.

Somalis would have to prove to the world that a greater Somali state can exist peacefully with its neighbours and i think an apology is the first step to changing that perception. in the past somalis have not build cordial diplomatic relationships, and for this reason they will never be trusted.

I know the guy you're talking about, in Isiolo, and yes it is related to the Shifta wars. He died during the first Shifta war between 1960 and 1965 in his farm. My grandma can't tell a story without mentioning him. He was killed by Turkana tribesmen supported by the Kenyan government.

In the NFD Referendum in 1961, a vast majority of the inhabitants voted for unity with Somalia and not being made part of Kenya.

The British were the arsewholes who ignored the referendum and gave NFD to Kenya.

i think the kenyan govt and kenyan people will welcome a public apology from the various somali clans that were involved in the war.

with time i think the waggalla issue will be resolved and all the families compensated. the case is already in court and they just need to reopen the files. Kenya has done so much for somalis since the beginning of the civil war and i think an apology would be the best way to show appreciation. the kenyan govt has already made the first step by giving the NDF 2.4 Billion ksh. this is more than any other kenya province received
