I believe gender plays a role as well..biologically speaking we know girls mature (Physically) before boys..girls reach puberty before boys and there is alot of evidence in the literature that girls mature mentally before boys because they frontal lobe grows/develops earlier than that of boys..Also i think it depends expectations of society or one's environment for instance in western cultures an individual is said to be mature or expected to act mature once they reach the age of 18, while in many eastern cultures once a guy/girl hits puberty they seen as mature adults despite even if they are 14/15..basically peeps Nature and Nuture both influence maturity...there's my 2 cents
