That's true. That's why it's important to live in a Muslim society or community.

She was probably a manic depressive or was in a pro-longed state of post-partum depression and the husband's marrying another woman only made her situation worse. Most Somali women are in pro-longed post-partum depression, because they rarely give themselves a chance to recover properly after they have a baby; its a vicious cycle and suicide is high on their list.

AUN. But Come on, do you actually believe in that nonsense about post partum depression? It's a made up by psychiatrists to make money and stay in business and for pharmaceutical companies to make money selling anti depressant drugs. I'm sure depression exists, and this woman was suffering from it, but it's exaggerated in the media. For the most part psychiatry is a pseudo-science.

Rebelion,

Post-partum depression happens to about a 2/3 of all women who give birth, its also known as "Baby blues" but most of it goes away by the 2nd or 3rd week after delivery. There is a small group of women who have this type of depression for months, then it becomes manic or malignant type of depression. So, a woman who was already depressed from her first child has another one before recovering, then another and it keeps going.

Our culture does not recognize it, but it happens to many of our women who are left undiagnosed for the most part. Nothing to be ashamed of really, because its primarily caused by hormonal imbalance in the woman after giving birth. Its not a pseudo-science, there's substantial literature to prove it exists.
