Ismahan, I am looking things at the traditional Somali way. We all know a single father isn't shame to Somali community, but a single mother is big shame within the family and community.

So who should put extra effort to remain married?

The effort should be on both people in it together. If one person carries the weight they will fall and so will the marrage.

You will rarely see nin Somali ah oo ciyaalkisa koorinayo asigo kaligees ah. Heck if when they are married they dont help out the mother. Meel kasto aa taagtid waxaad aragaysa hooyo oo ilmohaydi la dadacayso. These men are barely in the pic during the marriage and when they divorce, disappear out of the pic all together.

I rather be in an abusive marriage than get a divorce. The embarrasment of divorce is far worst,it reflects to your personal failure, as a woman, a wife, a muslim etc etc. I rather hubby be abusive, heck i could turn that abusiveness into erotic positive fetishness. to me Divorce is worst.
