Of course, Xamar needs more than little makeover but your point is well taken. Especially the parts of Xamar in the pics above don't need extensive rehabilitation. However, once the most urgent matters are addressed Xamar needs serious city planning strategy.

The Urbanization craze of the 70s and 80s took a toll on the city in the sense that proper city planning was neglected. The rate of urbanization didn't keep up with the rate of infrastructure growth. Compared to other poor 3rd world and african capitals, Xamar fared poorly. The city doesn't even have street names, house and other properties don't have numbers... how did they deliver mail in xamar?

But Somalis still see it as their most cherished and best built city... this only shows how impoverished and underdeveloped Somalia really is.

Even after 20yrs of war, shelling and bombing, Mogadishu is way ahead of Buttsaso and Xaargeyso!

This places were tuulo before the civil-war, while Mogadishu was world class city!

It was months ago that ppl were fighting over drinking water in Hargiesa, and Bosaso? If it wasn't for pirates and smuggling revenues that hot desert would have been abandoned years ago!

To be a capital city though takes more than looks, you have to have security and peace and welcome ALL people not only other somalis of all qabiils but foreigners.
