I have an Aunt who bores me to death on the phone, whenever she calls me after a small conversation and the usual sii tahay, adiga see tahay, blah blah, she stays quiet, and doesn't say anything, it's like she isn't even there, and whenever I start a discussion, I only get one or two short responses, followed by an awkward silence, it's so frigging annoying not to mention boring and frustrating, I often manage to get rid of her with excuses like line kale ayaa i so kalay, but I can't help but feel guilty. How can I tell her what is she like on the phone without hurting her feelings? Help.

P.S..she is like this with everyone else, but no one dares to tell her, and btw she is so much different in person.

Nabeela, this is the advice am giving you:
When your aunt calls you tell her what news you heard today from the Tvs ,from the radios and from the the people specealy from Somalineters.When you finish that then ask her to share with you her experience in the old days when she was in Somalia and what kind of job she use to do.You can also ask her what towns she visited in Somalia, who were her naighbors
etc.By asking her such questions you can benefit from her experience.
You can also ask her what news she heard these about Somalia or about the world and when all that is done you can ask her to listen with you news from the BBC.In case you dont have a computer at home you can just let her listen with you some music and then you can ask her what kind of songs she use to entertain her self when she was teenage.
All that can go for more than an hour.After that you can say to her "I have a work to do here at home.If you want more conversation come and visit me."
I my self have an aunt who is very quite.At one time, I visited her and I use to ask her to tell me stories about her childhood.

On Topic: Nabeela, I know what u mean, but sometimes u just gotta adjust to someone's personality. Being annoyed sometimes is part of life. Instead of what most people try to do and avoid or eliminate, it's better to embrace it and then you'll find peace. So don't tell her, iska dulqaado.
