Look walaal, I am not here to dabate...in fact I am writing a paper at the moment which is due in an hour...Horta, although I didn't lived in his early presidential years, which I heard were much better than his late ones, I can say much about him...judging him by the stories I heard and the history on the internet that I read a while back, I can't stress enough that I liked him for his patriosm and what he did for his people and country. However, there are other things that I am very aware of, also through stories and history, that I am not much pleased about..an example of it is what had took place in Waqooyiga of Somalia back then when they were happily "part" of Somalia..and I believe this is where u r heading for :P ...an older relative of mine which I had a debate with like two days ago, believed that he was not the one who ordered the army to go up north and attack the innocents there..but the question is, wasn't he the president? Had he not have any power to stop them? And also the fact that he was in office for good 21 years...personally, those were my arguments and still is...aside from those walaal he did what no other man could do for Somalia!!! That right there my brother is a FACT!! He was a president for ALL not only one clan or sub-clan...Hade Soomaalidu qof wax ka sareeya haayo ama ah wee nacaan and wee ximiyaan!!..We all know this...its in our nature, we can't deny that...so people hate him (AUN) because he did alot of great stuff for the land/people aside from harming the Northerns which is indeed a very sinful act...and I don't like that. Ironically, I support the so called "Somaliland" and I am Mareexaan...well what do ya know :P...anywayz, the reason for that is because walahi I was a pro Somaliweyn a while back and since I could remember...but Alhamdililaah the Al-shabaab was an eye opener for me and my family!!...We are doomed, our future is very dark...I don't even think there will be Somalia 20-30 years from now...and the langauge is quickly fading away. To be honest I don't want anything to do with the majority of the Somali people (aside from my qabiil of course...but don't think I am qabiliste...I just realized how much people wanna attack us all the time and hate us because of what had happened 20 years ago)...I will be always happy if my qabiil are left alone and never be bothered by any anyone!!...right now the little place I thought would be the safest (Dhabat) is not anymore...kolayba all in all...if Somaliland wants to be their country then we should let them be and SUPPORT them...after all why would anybody want to be held back by the other uncivlized Somalis when they could do so much for their land "alone?"...I don't get it...I think its all nonsense...I say we should let Somaliland be and follow their footsteps because we, from Somalia, need a role model in politics...u know if Somalis see someone better they try to compete with that person...so I think if Somaliland is recognized...they will proof that Somalis can actually achieve something and proudly be part of the world events like the Olympics, UN talks, etc...truethfully I don't know much about politics in all of East Africa, but I know the basics that can hold me in a very important arguement...

Salaam....

DAMN...I should have wasted this much on my paper :o
When where Somalis ever united?

There is an argument with some supporters that says the largest isbahaysi in Somali history occurred between 1969 and 1978 as Somaliweyn built towards Jigjiga. Before and after was just Somali politics as usual.

The agriculturist vs. the nomadist, baadiye iyo beled, coast and miye, Waqooyi iyo Konfur, as well as the tribal splits and minorities, have always been there. The austere North was influenced mostly from the Arabian peninsula; the South from Persia, Iraq, Oman and points east, and the Swahili coast. Very different mindsets.
Somalis have no one to blame but themselves.

They got rid of Siad Barre, they could have came together and become a bigger force but chose to go with their powerless fiefdoms beholden to our neighbor.

Quit blaming a dead guy for no government, he has a share in the blame of all this shid, but he can't do anything now.

somalis need a strong hand to dominate them, democracy cant work in a country when evry other person has a gun , i think we need another dictatorship for at least 5 years ( more maybe need to re-habilitate the masses) then a vote can be held in which only educated people can take part not warlods or sheiks

a leader should be elected not on his qabill or millitias power but his qualifications and history in the political arena

Well Shankaroon your entiteled to your opinion Qabilniimo wa qaxootiniimo you mention ,Qoute I can't stress enough that I liked him for his patriosm and what he did for his people and country.

Well we all know what he did to his country sure he contributed to building Somaliya thats a fact but he also helped destroying Somaliya what's the point of contributing to building a nation if you can start a civil war and destroy it ? he made you and I and millions of other Somalis refugees I can't admire that I despise that I was born and bred in a white mans country where is my country it's Somaliland alhamdulahi Mind you I have no hate for meraxaan or any other Somali clan I just despise the late president for creating clan politics and destroying Somalia but that's in the past I was merely stating historical facts!

Abdillahi yusuf is the culprit here we need to remove the cancer of Somalia and that is that old man bringin a arch enemey to Somali soil to kill bomb and rape woman people like Somali boqor worship that man why because of clan allegiance he is a Blind follower a fool a ignoramous !

Let's not make great mistake here and blame our problems to the faciliatators. I beleive with facts to back up, that Somalia (Africa in General) was divided by Colonial powers to succed their missions. They studied all African (Somali includeded) and decided to divide and create conflicts between them. It is very unfortunate that we all fall this trap and turn out to be Facilitators and Victims alike. This was true majority of African States.

Said Barre (AUN) understood the situation, tried to solve the immidiate problems we faced at the begining of his Era and brought all Somalis together without any regard of tribal background and affiliation. We had the most succesful years as a nation in terms of Education, Economy,Development, and Production. He became a National Hero to be reckon with and was no way part of any Somali division.

I beleive Siad Barre (AUn) made greifly mistake by invading Ethiopia. This led us to be dependent of others (mainly US Aid) which in turn helped the overall cause of the colonial power's Somali division.

My conclussion is that we were divided by Colonial Powers and we are either Faciliator or a Victim.

That argument is true. I think the only other time was Ahmed Gurey, but his struggle was Muslimnimo.

Thats why there is no hope for any sort of central Somali authority. The way Somalis live is the way they always have lived.

Who divided Somalis?
I have a better question, who has ever UNITED Somalis?
I can count the number of examples on the fingers of one hand, and those were never successful in uniting ALL Somalis, just some of them.

- Ahmed ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi united many Islamic peoples in his call to arms, including various Somali clans, though it fell apart after his death.
- Imam Gareen of the Ajuuraan conquered and united most south Somalis by force.
- Siad Barre forced unity upon a country that didn't want it through dictatorship.

The only administration to ever actually unify Somalis was the British government that united all Somalis under a brief colonial government from 1941-1948, but that doesn't really count.

That's true, they were a unifying force as well, so 4 examples we have so far.

What nonsense. When did the ICU have meaningful control over all Somali's and the lands they inhabit? Never.

True he done great harm to somalia(nepotism and genocide) and he got what he deserved(humiliation).A tyrant going for destruction!
But no one done greater harm to somalia than your amir al munaafiqeen abdullahi yusuf.
So we should talk about todays traitors, they are serving the enemies of somalia who want to divide somalia amongst themselves(ethiopia and kenya).
If the somali people do not forgive each others , forget the past and come together there will never be somalia anymore.
