It's no easier for me than anyone else to figure out what is really going on. At the mmoment I would say the UN screwed up in not getting other than Ethiopian forces to protect the TFG. At the same time, the Shiskabob has proven that the real issue is not Ethiopia, but any group that can keep them from power.

Ethiopia got the Ogaden as a buffer zone, probably BECAUSE OF the Ottoman history with Ahmed Gran and the threat posed by Sayidka. It has a position much like Tibet or Zinjiang in China, or the Kurdish areas in Iran and Turkey, and may eventually be the subject of a referendum. This cannot happen unless and until there is a functional Somali government for them to join with.

The "international community" is pretty well united behind a united Somalia and has been trying to include moderate Islamic elements like Shaykh Shariif in a unity govenment. Those few groups like Eritreia and Al Qaida that support the "mujahidiin" are essentially just spoilers.
Those groups that can actually help Somalis, such as the UN, AU, and IGAD, etc. are all on the other side.

I don't have the feeling the international community is turning a blind eye. There have been gross crimes on both sides of this fight. I think they are trying to get their eyes out of mortar range while trying to support anyone with a credible program, and care for those who have been dislocated by the fighting at the same time. Selective executions by stabbing or stoning do not support the notion of a credible program. I think the international community feels the Shishkabob needs to stand down or be put down, and I haven't seen any movement in this area.

the hardlines are just a marganilized groups who have neither the trust nor the support of their people!
I was talking to this afghan dude who i thought was a taliban hardcore or at least just sympathizer but to my utter dismay,the guy hated those warmongers and showed his hatred of arabs for exporting their distorted and malignant ideologies to his country.
he told me how even some of these talibans work for the CIA in order to prolog the suffering of his people.
the case is not different from somalia and we are caught in an international conspiracy to make somalia suffer as much as possible...But lets hope santa claus will do his miracle.
