Can you guys come with tangible examples? Having the american dream does not make you more successful.
Lets be real, Almost every School, Hospital, Universities, Hotel etc in Somalia was build by the Somalis from Europe.
Ismahan
It's a big misconception to say that Somalis in the UK dont work or attend university. To be honest we have Somalis in Oxford and Cambridge, but how many somalis attend Harvard??
The difference between us and you guys is that in Europe people have higher expectations. If you a Somali in America becomes the class rep or gets a bogus certificate of achievement its all over the news (Hiiraan Online usually

). Its laughable.

Good point, I think they have lower expectations because they were newer whereas in UK there was an established Somali community who when the newer waves of refugees from the late 80s to early 90s saw working and living in the UK. In fact some of them were working in the local government and in services to help the new arrivals. This I think is the reason Somalis in the UK always had higher expectations for themselves, because they did not see themselves as helpless refugees only (the bantu ones in North America even had to be taught how to flush a toilet) but saw that they too could do well here in the UK.

Quite a few!
There are Somalis in Princeton and Yale also, and there are some over here in Johns Hopkins Medical
Aliyah, there have been Somalis here since the 1970s atleast. In the UK, there have been Somalis there since the British made the protectorate.

in terms of balancing dunya and akhira, so material success whilst still maintaining deen and cultrual identity than somalis in the UK by far imo. Laakin in terms of educational acheivements and assimilation somalis in the states win.

I voted for Somalis in America because they tend to be less assimilated and more religious in general than say Somalis in Canada or the Netherlands. Columbus, OH will produce the brightest Somalis there ever was.
ps. I didn't even see what Nobleman wrote when I replied.
