I own an ibanez I received as a gift, an ovation and an old Yamaha I've had for a few years now. I also just got an 'oud from my in-laws in the UAE

Your a lucky man skippa, I have to dig through any non-al itahad family members residing in that part of the world and than get them to send me an oud, lol In my car, majority of the songs are sang with oud, sounds so original and moving

Advo, you should be able to order an cuud online or check out pawnshops in your town...hopefully, It won't cost you an arm and a leg.

I'd kill to get my hands on an cuud, there's a crash course session in my area but a friend of mine could catch up, i hear its extremley intricate and there are additional chords thrown in than say compared to your simple playing acoustic guitar...plus the plucking can draw blood in your first few weeks of playing i hear...ouich

Amaat, he biggest difference I think is that there are no frets on the oud so it's a bit of an adjustment as far as placing your fingers. Also the fact that all strings are in 2s except the uppermost which is single. I think all stringed instruments are a bit painful on the fingers but you get used to it after a while, as you get well callused.
