I'm not proud of how little I know Somali. But I grow up with only my mother and father and sibbling as the only SOmalis around till I was in my late teens. How is one suppose to speak perfect Somali when 97% of the time he is non Somali speakers?

I'm not around too many Somalis, I'll admit though I know a lot more Somali since interacting with my people online last couple years though.

My sister take somali classes as her foreign lang requirement at her Univ....its SAD wallahi.

There's nothing wrong with speaking somali with south or north accent, there's no right or wrong

The problem here is somali Kids and youth raised in the West......like he siad and I observed this on different occasions, Majority of waqooyi parents stress their kids to speak Somali at home and repeatedly correct them if they make mistakes, while so many koonfur parents dont necessarly care, They speak somali to the child and the child responds in english or the parents dont correct the kid for example "hooyo wuubaxey" ...

yes, its true reer waqooyi children are better in af somali then reer koonfuur/puntland. but theres a simple reason for that, the generation of 1950-1970 (our parents) who grew up in koonfuur were bilingual in either english/italian.

alot of the koonfuur parents really dont care if their children reply in another language because they understand it.

my mom is fluent in english and can read and write at a post-high school level. the reasoning being she was born and raised in xamar, and had formal English training.

Each has its merits. The North is clear but serious. The South lacks some proper grammar but is jovial.
