Highland wrote:This topic is not intended to project a contemptible veneer or deny the Marehan what is rightfully theirs, but to examine the current state of affairs in which this Somali clan found themselves in.

Right after Barre's was ousted, Mareehan at the time privileged with huge amount of resources and national armaments receded to their home territory. They have made desperate and abortive attempts on several times to regain the lost power along with other Darods from Kismayo. However, when Barre made his intention obvious that he was still the President. Many other Darods felt betrayed and recalled his once adamant refusal to give up power while beseiged by the savages before he was forcefully fetched by suicidal SSDF commandos.
In all of these attempts to recapture their glory, the Marexan have committed the worst atrocities in Bay and Bakool whose numerously superior inhabitants were defenseless and peaceful by nature. Suspected of collaborating with General Aideed, the Marehaans buried their crop/corn reserves and blocked their wells with mortar shells. This ruthless war strategy , they thought was enough to punish the collaborators and uproot them. However, it led to the worst humanitarian crisis in Somalia with over half a million Rahanweins and others dead of starvation and diseases. Another ruthless action the Marehans committed was to kill the house wives and cripple the men with child rearing.

Ever since this strategy, the Sade warriors' power have exponentially declined. At first, they were not sophisticated enough to capitalize on what they inherited from Bare's regime and turn Gedo into a pilgrimage. They were the most inflated though small in reality. This fact was learned right after their agreement with a sub-clan of Habargidir to covet and steal and control Kismayo. They played a secondary role over the strategic control of this city while uprooting the natives, destroying its environment, and engaging in the business of ransom kidnapping and check points. This dismal state in the city and environs swelled Refugee camps in Kenya as people flee for their lives.

It also become obvious their secondary management in Kismayo through the pronouncements of warlord Indha-Ade when he publicly said that they made Hiiraale and would eliminate at any time of their choosing. Then, Hiirale fled late at night, never firing one shot of resistance.

Al-shabaab has become a blessing in disguise for the natives of Kismayo and other regions. Now they even control Gedo regions as the once artificially powerful Marehan joined the same ranks of the myriad clans in the south that desperately seeks for help in the pursuit of peace and development. And this is the unfortunate fate of Marehans today.

May Allah help the Marehan Qabil.

Off the topic -- How come we have more Ilkoyars in this section, than real Puntlanders?. U won't see the latter group, posting random comments and threads in Gedo section (well, perhaps, few of them stretch their fingers by traveling 10cm below this section, Lol), whilst the former group runs 2 this section like prostitutes who are searching 4 a shelter!!!.....
