Aero, there is no Cancer that doctors can say you have 10-12 yrs to live with certainty.. thats more like you might have a great chance to beat it..

But yeah.. it depends on how you think your loved ones would react to it..besides the time frame you gave is so long..there is no reason you should have them worried for all that time.

Aero there is nothing wrong with needing people we all need someone sometime. You might think you're doing them a favour by not telling them but you'd be hurting them a lot more than you think. If someone you love suffers in silence because they feel they don't want to bother you with their problems then something must be wrong, you must have failed them in some way because you weren't there for them when they needed you the most

Those are the kind of thoughts that will always be in their head. If my sibling feel ill and they didn't tell me because they felt they didn't want to bother me, I'd feel like I failed as a sister. To knowingly inflict that kind of guilt on someone you love is not fair. Even when you have cancer, it's not just about you, I would put my pride aside and share the grief.

BV walal this has nothing to do with pride. It has a lot to do with the way one is brought up. Being emotional is all good and dandy but without any recourse or real tangible help by bother them with your burden. Why not take your troubles to the grave. it maybe hurtful but its the best option out there. I personally know someone who did not tell their folks of a coronary ailment till it become too obvious and patient needed triple bypass.

Have you ever heard of Harambe? Where there is a will there is a way even if the family is not well off collectively then could try. You are right it has a lot to do with how you were brought up and how close the family is.

So you haven't answered my question. If you're brother was diagnosed with cancer would you want to know? Do you think you would cope better knowing from the beginning or right at the end?

Sns I'd take my troubles to my grave.

BV tI has nothing to do with monetary and its kinda funny you would imply only a close knit family shares problems. As to my bro, it really wouldn't make much of a difference as I will respect his decision to tell me earlier or later.

Btw what if they don't even find out?

Well I guess I'm relating it to the families I know.

The only way they wouldn't find out is if you cut them out of your life and moved to an area with zero Somalis

I would… ask for caafis from those who I have done wrong, pay my debt of and pray as much as I could asking for Allahs swt forgiveness… perhaps a hypocritical thing to say now because, I should be acting this way regardless! But a wake up call is scary yet also a second chance for you and those around you... So i would tell, definetly.
Having said that, I don't wish any cudur on anyone.

Aero,

We Somalis are the worst people in the world when it comes to illness. I agree with you  You don't want any pity..If I were that person I would live my life normally even though I have to tell you I am not a brave person..But I would have tried...The pesron should not stop any activity that he was involved like education, working etc.unless it is a sin..

But the person has to tell his immediate family at least and ask them not to spread the word if they can..
