Strong national authorities are ideal for places like Afghanistan and SOmalia. The problem with Afghanistan and Somalia is that foreign interference always disrupts the consolidation of power by one group in Somalia.

If there was no foreign intereference, there would have been winners and losers in the civil wars with conflict ending quickly. The calamity is that the civil wars are being prolonged because of external forces interfering to assist one side usually the weaker to continue fighting rather than losing.

In war, there are winners and losers. It is the duty of the winner to be gracious to the loser so as to prevent a relapse.

Don't believe me. Look at Angola's civil war which only ended when the West & South Africa cut off aid and diplomatic support & implemenatation of sanctions against UNITAS of Jonas SAvimbi whom they had supported against the Communist Leaning Central Government.

Mozambique - South Africa and the West cut off their support to the RENAMO rebels who were pressured to join the peace talks or face total annihalation at the hands of the Central Communist Leaning Government albeit with Western support.

AW252, again I'm well aware of outside interference. And according to your own words, you should stop supporting the Western-backed Sheikh Sharif.

Point being, Somalis have sufficed WITHOUT a central authority better than Afghans have done with a recognized government (Najibullah era).

Paidmonk You're wrong on this one. Prior to 2001 the Taliban was a GOVERNMENT controlling the whole Country except for Shah Masud's little enclave in the North. Infact they were so formiddiable that 30,000 US troops, in addition to thousands of other NATO troops cannot controll them and there still putting up a fight.

Paidmonk, celebrate your bantustans because you guys realized the prime essence of what Aabe Siyaad called "ISKA WAX U QABSO". Good on you for not waiting on the world or the barbarian USC in Xamar, both you and Somaliland. Somebody is showing nothing but their hate if they can't comment on the mad max world in Xamar as our biggest problem and concentrates your individual attempt to rise up even without the support of any government.

Taliban is one thing, I said pre-Taliban Afghan efforts of regional stabilization. Somalia is the only country I've ever heard of that built regional authorities during a civil war climate, effectively tuning out certain regions from negative action.

I like to think Somalia took the opposite cause of what Karl Marx once said. We went from a feudal state to a democratic state to a socialist state back to a feudal state.
