Ismahan,

I'm willing to hire anyone to finish the job and get the county off my back.

Sadeboi,

I wish I'd the imagination of Basra and AW. This thing has become a major nuisance.

Anybody got Joe's number?

Yung,

Apparently there are 2 major components to a septic unit I.e. the tank itself and the drain/leech fields where the liquids are deposited back in the ground once the solids are left behind in the tank. The lines that leave the tank to the fields are old and corroded from years of wear & tear, county wants brand new lines put in at 260 ft of PVC which is sheer madness. They've threatened to fine me and send me before a court. Right now, I have no running water at the house, because whatever water I drain resurfaces in the backyard. I gotta go to my mom's to take a shower. Soomaalida need to learn this field runti, a lot of money to be made in it.

Somalis can't work in this field...how are u gonna break it to ur parents that u fix water tanks for a living? Unless u present it like "Hooyo, aabo...I'm a water engineer"

Thanks for the info sxb, I'm gonna have to look into getting mine checked out just in case...I almost choked when I saw $7,500 + miscellaneous fees and "damages" (Af-Carabi for "we'll break something else and tell u later how much we charge to fix it"). Ilaahay Kheyr Ha Ka Dhigo

Whoa....May Allah ease off some of that burden!

The third option seems like a pain, but it looks to be the most cost-effective one for the moment. Within those 15 days given, I'd say take care of the containing portion of the problem, to the satisfaction of the county's regulations and the heck with everything else. Soon as u do that, then u'll have plenty of time to shop around for prices and options for a long-term fix to the problem. Besides, you could always come back and reset the sewer-tap motion and actually fix the tank later on. In the meantime....I'd say go search for some grants/ interest-free loans for the fixture. Since its the county that's making you jump thru these hoops, they should have tons of emergency funds for people they've put these regulations on. Besides....now is a good time as the Stimulus package is around and counties want to move some of that money around for the most needest of folks, so that they can stay in their homes and not go bankrupt due to problems such as urs. I'm sure would could qualify for something so check that out.

Btw, U'll hate me for saying this but....7000 really isn't so bad :P . One of our neighbors had their boiler suddenly just burst, and the whole place was in best way put: "thow-up  !"....Anyway, they needed to get it fixed asap and it was said to be fixed for a whopping 15k-17k. They were given by the city 30 days, notice. My neighbor looked into a program that lend them about 10k, and gathered money from his folks for the rest. Guess what tho? The county basically says that u have to have someone licensed fix it, but they wont ever ask for proof. He was able to find a very proficient Mexican in need of money, who got it done for 60% less.... lol. After that he called the county up and they came and inspected it to be legit...My neighbor gave back their money and prolly learned a whole lotta new words too. Owning a house makes u a "waaya arag" as they say. The amount of bureaucracy that one has to go through is just insane! lol. Anyway, Good luck!

Kolombo.

Like Alluring, I thought you quoted the article from some white dude who had a tough day and was venting. You should take the question mark on your skills as a complement. Good write up.

Good read! PVC aka "n. A common thermoplastic resin, used in a wide variety of manufactured products, including rainwear, garden hoses, phonograph records, and floor tiles."

Kolombo sorry to hear you found yourself in such predicament. A lesson for prospective somalinetter house buyers to exhaustively inspect the house and get certified inspectors to inspect items like swimming pools, underground oil storage tanks, or septic tanks. Good luck sxb.
