Its not Haram....
If the person that hit him or his car has a contract with an insurance company to pay the costs of any damages, there is nothing wrong with getting a compensation. Its only haram if he lied or exaggerated about the accident or injury...
I remember in LaasCanood when it was under wadaads in the 1990s, a guy got a compensation because someone slapped him.
